Is there anyway to turn off the ready light once the car starts to move?

Nope, it stays on once the car is running. Maybe it goes off if you turn the dimmer down all the way but if it did then you'd have no dash lights like speed etc... Not sure if it does though.

If it bothers you enough, you could do what people did in their early GII's that had a light showing the temperature was below 37 degrees, and put electrical tape over it.

The "READY" light means the car is operational for driving. Which do you want:

    1. Not to see "READY" light but continue driving?
    2. Disable car operation while moving?

    Then you have three options:

    1. black electrical tape - you'll never see the READY again
    2. clear tape with black stripe - you'll be able to raise it if READY is a question but otherwise, blocked from view
    3. (untested) - READY may be a single line to the display from the vehicle control computer but I don't have an electrical diagram for my ZVW30 to verify this is the case. A simple switch could disable it.
Would you pay $100 (USA) for an 'after market' solution?

How soon do you need it?

Are you willing to risk your Prius warranty using an aftermarket modification?

    Why?
It is no brighter than the gear indicator or any other parts of the display.

I'm not going to bother to wonder outloud why you want it turned off. You've gotten plenty of answers to that already.

Self hypnosis? If you perceive that it is off, then unless someone claps or snaps their fingers you'll be happy?

    Re: People Get Ready

My Prius often is 'ready' when no obvious noise tells me so, the engine might be off, but it will still move if I press on the pedal. For folks used to a 'normal' car, (my father has been driving 70 years) a reminder that the car is ready even though the engine is off could be a lifesaver.

(Having the ready light go out once you are moving seems safer than just x seconds after you start it. Mind you I try to get Head lights, Cruise, Recirc and Ready all lit myself))

But there is road noise when you are moving and the dash is all lit up so I know car ready to do
I been driving for 35 years, so what does age have to do anything:confused:

It just bugs me where it is , maybe if was by the crusie light it would bug me so much
Also when you dim the lights ready light does not dim

Did you own a Prius previous to this car? If not give it time and you probably won't even realize it is there after a few months. I know I don't...

Ok, now we're getting down to some hard requirements:

    • READY or ACTIVE - it changes text (any others desired?)
    • relocatable about the cabin and display area, 2 meters radius OK
    • adjustable intensity
This looks to be quite feasible:

    • photo sensor and light blocker - fits over the "READY" area
    • microcontroller display - generates "READY" followed by "ACTIVE" (or words of your choosing)
    • adhesive backing to mount the display anywhere within cabin, the assumption is it will only need to be within 2 meters of the original 'READY' display
I'll work up a detailed parts list and send you the design, parts list, and estimated costs. Once I received payment for the materials, I'll order the parts, build it up, test it and send payment request for the completed unit.

To get everything going, send me a PM with your PayPal e-mail address for the materials invoice. Then we can get this project started. Best of all, there will be no modification to the Prius electrical system so your Prius warranty will be safe.

    ROM COSTS:

    • $1.00 - photo detector
    • $5.00 - black plastic material
    • $2.00 - opaque plastic material
    • $5.00 - adhesive
    • $2.00 - shielded connector wire
    • $51.00 - PCB board layout
    • $20.00 - dot matrix, back lit LCD display
    • $20.00 - microcontroller
    • $5.00 - power regulators
    • $5.00 - resistors, caps, e.t.c.
    • $5.00 - micro-switch to cycle intensity
    • $10.00 - 12 VDC plug for power
    • ~$125.00 - material costs
To complete the design, assemble and test will take a little labor and some consumables. This should come in at:

    • $375.00 - labor
    • $100.00 - taxes, shipping and handling
    • ~$600 - total cost
Note, this is Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) cost that can be off by a factor of 2 ... as high as $1,200 or as low as $300. But I will need the materials before completing the detailed design, integration and test.

Thanks :D I look into it
Really is my question any different then someone wanting the rear view camera to work when they are driving:confused:

Also a simple yes or no really could of been enough:)

Guys I don't like that my car moves when I am driving it. I'd rather the sensation of it being completely still when I'm doing 75mph on the interstate. Is there anyway I can make it feel like I'm suspended in a giant bladder of red gelatin instead? It really bugs me when I drive the car and it moves. Bob? :)

While we are at it as well as turning off the ready light once the car is in Drive (or reverse) I would also like to turn off the Airbag On light in fromt of the passenger seat.....having it on for a few seconds at startup makes sense but to leave it on all the time when someone is sitting there is annoying.

You'll have to wait for the gen M (M-roman numeral 1000) :). Will include the warp drive too... :)
