I took a quick swipe at the FUELY data and generated this chart:

As expected, fewer miles per day corresponded to lower MPG. But there comes a point when longer miles per day leads to higher speeds and possibly exceeding 75 mph and/or hitting hills at high speeds. Interesting data, the average for all tanks and miles came in at 49 MPG.

What is your theory for the MPG boucing back up after the 120 miles/day mark? Interesting!

Also, I drove 27 miles/day in my last tank (513 mi, 61.1 MPG, 31 MPH). Glad to see I was way above the curve for that amount of daily driving according to your data.

No theory, yet. I'm more like one of those experimental physicists ... smash things up and then see if the fragment give a clue ...

Now if I was doing a lot of long distance driving, I might like interstat truckers, soon learn what speeds keep my fuel costs down. In contrast, if my long distance driving is eating into my vacation/sick leave, my motivations might be to 'burn the fuel and GIT THERE!' ... especially if I had family as passengers. These are just idle speculations.

For me, it was the discovery of a new source of mileage records, quite detailed, and a chance to see what another group of 2010 owners are doing. If I remember correctly, there are about 22 vehicles in this set. The bad news is it difficult as heck to capture the data for analysis.

I look at this and I want to have lunch with your two outliers. What makes them different? I am such a people person!

    Thanks Bob! :)
