Just purchased a 2010 Prius pkg III about 3 weeks ago. At low speeds (>5 < 35 mph), there is a rattling /ticking noise in ront passenger seat area or engine area when accelerating slowly.
The dealer told me that was something to do with the VVT-i and would clear up before the 5 k oil change.

I am skeptical by nature so wondered if anyone out there had had this same problem/concern.

Check the prop rod in the hood...might not be snapped into it's holder.

You should be skeptical of that 'answer':

Meaning: 'Just wait, it might go away'.

You may want to search the Gen III Forum for this topic; there have been many posts on rattles other noises etc. Denise mentioned a possibility that a couple other owners ran into. Also, anything loose rolling around the unlined gloveboxes or storage areas could be a source. Try to locate the source best you can, and of course turn the audio and A/C off. Perhaps a passenger can assist.
Then again, it may just clear up by 5K.... sure.

Not only that - guess who the root cause of your problem no doubt - your expert dealer's new car prep person.

I believe that Denise will be forwarding an invoice to you for consultant services, not covered under your warranty.

    Dean,
I appreciate your reply - I did do the due diligence and checked all your suggestions before posting. It was the hood prop.

This is a great forum and I am happy that people like you guys are responding.

    txs again..

I guess the Dealer was right, It would have gone away at the first oil change assuming the mechanic had snapped the rod back

I know Toyota is monitoring this forum. Really you MUST do something about these dealers, they are ruining YOUR reputation with this incessant lieing, didn't know your valve train was noisy did you?
