I would like to get some data from as many people as possible. It will be about another two months or more before I get to the gas station to time how long I spend there so I need your help.

Here is what I want from you.

I want you to use a stop watch. Start it as soon as you enter the gas station property.

    Pump your gas

As soon as your car leaves the gas station property stop the stop watch.

Come back here and tell me.....

Total time spent at the gas station.
    total miles on that tank.

If you cant give me that info please dont post.

well well, i have actually been doing most of that already, at least for past 2 fillups on each car. only thing is, both times the SPM was filled it had at least 2 bars or more on it, but i dont drive it and no matter how many times i tell someone that it can go at least another 150 miles, it does no good.

but, the problem is the wait. the wait on the SPM is usually 6-10 minutes more simply because it gets gas usually after work during the week when lines are much longer.

now for the 2010, i usually fill it up tuesday morning. times on it were 5.48 and 8.01 and i always run the pump as fast as it will go up to about 2 gallons where i think i will be full.

for the SPM it was 12.15 and 17.51. now i always get gas at Costco and always pay by CC. because i use my Costco Credit Card, i save probably 20-30 seconds on the pay time since Costco requires two swipes one for membership card (my Costco CC doubles for that) and one for the CC used to pay

1.I don't believe in running my tank that low.

My apologies, I was reading another post knocking the Gen 3 prior to reading your post and was a out of line here saying that. I am somewhat frustrated at this point as I have been waiting on mine for months. I will soon be going into my 5th month waiting.

Anyway thats no excuse and I am sorry for my nasty post.

Its amazing how a topic gets so much bad stuff these days.

OK I was just trying to get an estimate on how much time I spent at the gas station using all those steps.

    I agree, Jay.

It's not like your asking for opinions, just data. It'll be a week or more but I'll try to remember to run the stopwatch.

its not surprising that you would not know that since the greenest gas guzzler on the planet no longer comes in green...

SPM is silver pine mica. a color available to version 2 of the gen 2 Prius. it replaced the color of my first Pri the tidelands pearl which could be construed as greenish in the right kind of light.

Boy, that's just to tempting to pass up. Mostly I drive the Xebra these days. It spends exactly zero minutes and zero seconds on gas station property. It "fills up" sitting in my garage plugged into the wall, but takes no gas at all to fill. :D :smug: (There's no smiley for "smug"!!! )

P.S. Hint: You could have said "please." ;)

I remembered this week when I filled up. Here is what my results were.

    Car: 2010 Prius III

    Tank Mileage: 502

    was on 1 Pip

    No line at pump

Did use lowest pump setting with 87 Octane

    Time: 8min*

    * the time was accidently long, I did start stop watch when I pulled into station. But I tried to start the pump too early, so I probably lost a minute of nothing happening, because I went back to car to start inputting info into Gas Buddy app. Then receipt didnt print, so I had to go in for a copy.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Thanks DaveinOlyWA and eaglesight333 for your data.

Daniel I have updated my first post to include "please". Also this data I'm trying to get will be used just to see how much time is wasted at the gas station versus plugging in at home. If you could I would like to know exactly how long it takes you to unplug and plug in every day. I'm talking about "out of your way time". For instance if you did not mess with a plug like a regular gas car you would just get in and drive off. What I would like is how much time is spent walking over to the plug and plugging it in or unplugging it. As an example it takes me about 3 seconds to either unplug and hang up the cord or get the cord and plug it in. This would be about 6 seconds wasted per day if I charge 1 time per day.

okie dokie...was gonna say, its only fair that we also log "plug in time" which is MUCH higher in my case.

now, i have to qualify the statement and this is something i have tracked a long time.

at home, plug in time is so short that i dont time it, so i will say, 10-15 seconds. (cord sits on bench right at garage door, plugged into my Kill-A-Watt.

but i also plug in at work (they pay me so little for my time i need to get as much fringe benefits out of them as i possibly can!!). now this takes a lot more time.

i have to get out, open hatch, plug plug out, plug into car, plug into socket, toss rug over it (the cord runs across sidewalk and this is safety committee requirement which i am more than willing to comply with to get my dime's worth of electricity for FREE!!)

so, to be fair, i use average "rain time" since the area is not covered and not near a door (ya, they make me work for my freebies!!)

so it all takes about 55 seconds to plug in, 25 seconds to unplug. total time 80 seconds @ 4 days a week. that is

5 minutes 20 seconds at work. another estimated 2 minutes at home for 7 minutes and 20 seconds per week.

now, my 2010 Pri only takes 5-7 minute per fill up and fill up about 3 weeks apart. so the Zenn takes 3X more time to "gas up".

I couldn't have planned it any better. Since my screen goes black after 30 seconds, there was no way of knowing what it would be until I was cruising to the exit and reactivated the screen.

Second recorded visit. This time, I had to walk into the station and get the reciept that failed to print at the pump.

It's been two weeks between visits. I was a week late posting the last one.
