This goes to show you: the cargo net hooks being redesigned and in a different place is not a national issue. Meaning, it's not TSB'ed or open service-knowledge yet.

Just because it's all over THIS board doesn't mean it's all over -- capische?

Jason, knowing what you know, call the TOLL FREE Toyota # and open a ticket regarding this -- you start with where the car was bought, and explain what happened at Manhattan Beach Service so they can educate the service personnel and open the door at this dealership to put in for a cargo net correction.

I am unsure why this isn't a TSB but perhaps it's not serious enough to Toyota to make it a TSB. It may be something that's being handled quietly. And, too quietly.

Well the problem is not because its not installed correctly, it’s because of a design error with Toyota. Obviously MB service department knows how to fix it that’s why they want to charge 90 bucks for it. I don’t see why its not covered under the warranty. well ill follow your recomendations and see . Thanks

The fact that it's not installed right and needs to be re-installed is NOT something that has been TSB'ed so no one knows to ask the factory to pay for this. So, they ask YOU.

The more folks who call the toll free # and EXPRESS CONCERN about their cargo net being a problem, as long as there IS a cargo net there in your car, the faster this will become widely known.

see the thing is that it is installed right. it can not be re installed in a correct way. its a design problem . the only way to fix it is to drill another bolt in to the panel. so its not correct that they tell people that its not installed right. Anyways thaks for your help dianne.

Jason, the hook to install the net NOW is in a different spot,. and the hook is totally different. It's a re-design, yes, but not one that's widespread known as a "bulletin"... I think if you dropped by the store to service again and looked at a car with cargo net NOW from the last (recent) allocation, you'd see what I am trying to describe.

    Dianne,
All I want to know is where can I order the new hook most of us can use a screwdriver. After seeing what they were doing with the new hooks, I went to Ace Hardware and bought something simular and fixed it myself, but would like to have the real live Toyota hooks.

Any idea where to get them?

    Cargo net

The problem is, right now the hook itself isn't available solo. It's provided with a new cargo net at the port facility. I believe that if this "fix" seems like a good one, they will then assign it a TSB # and start to replace the hooks in everyone's car who needs them. After the first design problem, they are not going to go willy nilly just fixing things fast till they KNOW this part's right. Capische?

    Re: Cargo net

I was told there now is a "Cargo Net Fix Kit" available, though the parts guy at my dealership had not yet been able to order it. My guess is that it contains the hooks, directions and (I'm hoping) some type of fix for the holes in my panels.

Do you have any info about this?

In my discussions with Customer Care reps over the past few days none of them indicated that there was a fix available for dealers to install.
The first rep I spoke to claimed that he hadn't heard of the problem before my call.

    Re: Cargo net

Sugar Bear, if I did, I wouldn't be posting to bring a CHILL OUT message to the troops. :) You know they will bring it out. It's just a matter of time. If they think they have it fixed and solved, then they have to figure out how to replace the side panels on every car they f'ed up from the first round of drillin!

Give them time. That's a part, I am sure, that's supplied to them and I am sure they have to figure the entire process out so that it's smooth.

    Re: Cargo net

    I appreciate the word, Dianne.

I didn't pull the concept out of thin air, though. It was the parts manager at the dealership who told me about the fix kit. He said he'd seen it just the other day and was going to try, again, to order one.

I'm trying to be patient, but for me the problem is not just a couple of weeks old. I found the problem before the first of June, and I had the dealer report it then. And, I wasn't the first to bring it to Toyota's attention. Certainly, they have more important things to worry about, but I paid for the darn thing one third of a year ago (doesn't that sound longer than 4 months?), and I'm really a bit tired of not having it.

I hope you guy's don't mind a stupid question, but can the cargo net be ordered? I was under the impression it couldn't be until the fix was in. Can it be ordered yet, and if so where?

I think the only problem with accepting the $150.00 worth of Toyota accessories is that Toyota Service is going to consider acceptance as resolution.

So next time the OP called or complained, they are just going to say, "Well we gave you $150.00".

If pushing the issue as high as you can go, to try and get REAL resolution is the priority then you are better off saying the $150.00 worth of additonal accessories isn't acceptable.

Having said that, I think I'd take the $150.00 bucks worth of stuff, rest easy that I made a statement and also that "eventually" Toyota will provide a fix.

The squeaky wheel get's the grease, even if it isn't the grease you expected or wanted.

I'm sure Toyota is now aware of the problem, at some point you take the money and run. Because while I'm sure at some levels they are aware of the problem, I'm also sure The President of Toyota doesn't stay awake at night because some people are unhappy about the verticle cargo net for the Toyota Prius. --Basicly other people are paid to worry about this.

Unfortunately for first generation early adopters this is exactly the type of "glitch" that happens. It will get resolved one way or another.

Personally, I'd use the $150.00 toward the lighted door sills. Those just look cool.

It doesn't suprise me that there is a problem like this in a newly redesigned model...but it does suprise me that Toyota never caught it. I don't see how you initially offer a verticle cargo net for The New Prius, and nobody at some point of research and development bothers to test it? Nobody installed it and took a look how the anchors were holding the net?

The panel separation is not subtle, it really suprises me nobody caught this before they started rolling down the assembly line.

At this point I don't think so. I ordered and got mine before Toyota put a hold on them. I ordered it from metrotpn.com but I just checked and they still have a hold on them.

I too am surprised that someone didn't catch the mistake before it was put into production, but things like this happen and there appears to be an easy fix.
What is wrong is the reaction, or should I say lack of reaction by Toyota toward the people whose cars are affected. To me it isn't acceptable that after the problem was identified over three months ago that there's still no time frame for correcting it (such as: the repair kits will be available in three more months.)
So far no one at either Customer Care or my local dealership claim to have heard of the problem before I brought the matter up.
I would think that Toyota would have notified their people about the issue so they wouldn't look so uninformed to their customers.

At least they offered you $150 - they offered me nothing when I called a couple of weeks ago and said that while I had not wanted it, I paid $80 for net/first aid kit that were factory installed options (with carpet matts = $280).

I talked to my dealer this afternoon and he said that they were notified today that a repair kit is out for retrofitting cars with the cargo net problem. He said he will order one immediately and it should be in early next week.

I heard this about two weeks ago, and I'm still waiting to hear from the dealer's parts guy.

Meanwhile, I've tried a couple of my own little fixes. One shows signs of promise, but I don't know that it will last a week. I'll report if it does.
