Test drove a Prius yesterday. Will be ordering one this week as it seems it's not very likely to find one in a lot with the specs I'd like.

However, I am a bit confused about the packages and options. I want the following:

Nav system
Leather Interior
Solar Roof
iPhone/USB link

So, I'm thinking I want a IV.

When I attempt to "build my Prius" from the Toyota website, when I select the Solar Roof option, it unselects the Navigation system. Are these two not compatible? I understand you can't have the Advanced Technology combined with the solar roof, but is that also true of the Navigation System?

Also, my dealer said it sounds like I should get a III- and have them manually replace the factory fabric interior with the dealer (Coach Leather) interior...but I have reservations about doing such dealer modifications. I'd rather have the car ordered and built from the factory right the first time.

Nav comes with every Sunroof, so the system is correctly unseting the redundant nav. Dealer is wrong or lying - you would be giving up several other things by choosing a III, such as 3-door SKS.

I probably sound like a broken record but I will not purchase a 2010 because of the way they have it packaged. You pay $1800 to get a backup camera and Nav, you can't have BU Camera alone. My problem with it is I can spend $200 on a nice Garmin with all kinds of great features and move it from car to car. When you go to trade in your car with the nav system in you will get hosed. Now lets spend another $1800 for a nav in the next car, I will just spend $0 and move my Garmin. :(

The Solar Roof package includes navigation. Fortunately or unfortunately, not only are the compatible, the way Toyota has them bundled they are inseperable. The reason it unchecks when you "build" is once you select Solar Roof, you've purchased both the Solar Roof PKG and Nav.

If you want leather, and from the factory leather, it really sounds like you want a Prius IV.

I saw two 2010's with the IV package at the dealer. I didn't see any with fog lights. Do the 2010's have the option of fog lights?

nav system must be very profitable, I'm surprised they didn't bundle it with steering wheel, maybe shouldn't say that they might be watching.

I agree with you 110%! (Math as good as package calculations!)

Except I LOVE my III with solar (The Solar roof is the ONLY reason I am coping with the NAV package!) but I miss my Garmin NUVI soooooo much!

I miss not only taking it from car to car, but also into a
restaurant to look up movie times, or plan our next local attraction.
But I guess that is what iPhones are for?!?

My Garmin is clear, intuitive and the menus are quick and logical.
It also stores and plays more than a dozen books on tape, CDs, and a few dozen of my favorite photos to show on the 2.5 X 5 screen.

{ Warning: Rant Alert!}

This new improved built in "Nav" package is a constant source of frustration to me! As a tech support rep, I am diligent about reading my manuals. I could read the NUVI's in my sleep! My "Nav" encyclopedia has so many post-it notes sticking out in every direction that it will hardly fit in either one of my cool "glove boxes"

I found "reverse alarm beeper" in the table of contents. (because I was going to start cutting wires randomly if it didn't stop beeping at me!) The directions show how to change the setting to single beep instead of continual beep, but I have not been able to find that menu screen on the dash!!!
So until then, I park creatively...this isn't the first time I owned a car that couldn't go in reverse! LOL

A lot of the time I have spent in my beautiful car has been in the sweltering heat, manual in hand, trying to make a simple adjustment, like set my "Home Point"!

But all of those little customer interface issues pale in comparison to the fact that Toyota, and the makers of this GPS have chosen to dictate my use of most of this system to be restricted to use ONLY when the vehicle is completely stopped!

So my passenger has to type quickly while we are at a stop sign to put in a name or address, or we could pull over to the side of the road to look at a map. (Humm isn't that what NAV systems where designed to eliminate?) Of course I know that a responsible driver plans ahead and enters needed data before leaving home, but it was not a problem to find out where the nearest Jack in the Box was with my NUVI! Now I have the choice of every fast food icon cluttering my Nav screen.

And don't tell me I can use the audio command instead,
either!!! One of the most entertaining things I do with friends when we ride in my high tech car with the airplane dashboard is take turns verbally requesting different "Local Attractions"! I will wait for the beep and pronounce clearly, "Department store" the digitized voice replies, "Chinese restaurant" and we laugh and laugh!

My husband, who is a senior project engineer for a well know fortune 500 company defends its complexity for its power, but he concedes that if it were his Customer User Interface engineer that had designed it, he would be "reassigned".

Or as I would say...
There wasn't a woman on that committee!
(or more likely, she was there alright, but she was not being heard!)

So my next mission is to find out how to de-activate the movement block-out function so I can use my NAV system responsibly whether the car is moving or not!

But I LOVE my solar roof and my MPG!

Oh, they're watching, alright!

But remember, they are more afraid of you than you are of them! ;)

While I'm on a rant roll...

What are we going to do about getting HOV lane privileges for this car?!?

Only offering a set number of HOV stickers to each
manufacturer is punishing responsible companies like Toyota.

It costs the states little to
offer commuter benefits to drivers who have paid a premium to use less fuel than 2 or 3 people in a Jeep Grand Cherokee!

I still don't see the back up camera display without the nav system. Certainly it seems this is a great improvement.

Is there any chance of getting the backup camera display without the Nav. System?

I think that is as possible as them offering me mine in yellow, but I haven't given up hope! :)

Honestly, I think that Toyota, like all auto manufacturers, are scrambling to conclude what options are going to sell cars.

Everything is going to have to wait in line behind Safety, MPG, and Stlye!

I haven't followed all the posts, so hope not a repeat, but ...

I've noticed on toyota build your own, there is no more Prius III w/o navigation for CA customers.

I'll bet the 'plain III' withou Nav will be back in time for Winter.

I still think its a mistake add 1800 nav system to get a backup screen. So many people have their portable gps systems. When you trade cars you simply pick up your gps and move to another car, instead of paying another 1800+ for a nav system. With car sales the way they are today I think the more picking and choosing they can do to reduce end user costs will sell more cars. I realize that the mfg would like everything packaged becuase there is less cost involved.
Hope Toyota rethinks its options

I agree! I am one of the suckers who paid the $1,800 because I wanted my solar roof!
And it is NOT a good Nav system!!! My Garmin and Verizon Nav systems are both much more useable.

My complaint about the backup camera is that the irritating alarm beeps in INSIDE the car instead of alerting bystanders outside the quite car!!!

Fear and greed needs to give way to client needs and satisfaction.

I am not sure which choices are now available, but I know that they were not offering the MIII with solar in S. CA. The only reason I got one is because my dealer bought 2 for their rental business they sourced out.

Try using an area/zip? code in N. Ca or East.

see this link:http://priuschat.com/forums/dealers-pricing/69534-yes-there-prius-pricing-increase-coming.html

Cross-forum link, but it's pertinent to this thread because it mentions what the Prius I will have:

That's pretty gutted. I don't know if anyone would get that.

I think if you search this site you can stop that beep.

Oh yea, I found the instructions in the manual to change the constant beep to a one time beep; I just haven't found the screen in the car where I can make that selection!!!

If anyone can direct me there that would be nice!
The dealer said I could bring it in and they would try to figure it out!

I just think it's silly to make it beep inside instead of outside where it could alert people behind me that there was a quiet car coming!
