Just got my 2005 Prius, and the upper and lower glove box buttons are all scratched up and look terrible. Also, there are scratches below the key receptacle hole on the dash that are very noticeable. These two things should be minor fixes, but I'm not sure how to proceed.

I asked my Toyota Dealer to look up the part numbers for the glove box buttons and he could not find them individually, he said he thought you had to buy the whole glove box!? Is this true? and Plan B, can you paint these effectively?

What is the best way to touch up the black paint from the key scratches?

Thanks from a newbie but enthusiastic Prius guy!

Have you tried ebay or the for sale section of this forum? Maybe they have the parts you are looking for at a cheaper price.

I dont really pay attention and I dont really drive my Prius, is the key hole attached to the door handle?

To touch up the black paint around the key hole is pretty difficult if you are looking for a perfect finish. If they are minor, I would first try to buff them out, or have a detail shop try and buff them out.

To paint them yourself, well that depends on your skills. You will need to remove the door panels(inside) to acess the screws/nuts holding the handle in place. Remove these and the little bar that is connected to the handle itself to "open" the door. Dont lose/break the clips holding this bar in place. Remove the lock cylinder after you have removed the handle from the car. Then sand it paint it, and reinstall it.

For paint, I would buy the touch up paint from Toyota, and then buy something like the Preval spray kit.

My glovebox button got all messed and scratched and the top one is still perfect since i never use it. but for the bottom i just scratched all that gray stuff off and it actually looks pretty good now, the bottom button is a nice black, and the one above is gray. you'd think it came straight from the factory like that.

I'm talking about the ignition key, not door key, sorry for confusion
