I am going to guess that this is a cable problem and that they did not update theirs to match Apple's changes with the new ipods/iphones.

Thanks for the detailed explorations and reviews.

wow, thats really something = ) By the way, is there anyway to just buy a navi screen on ebay, and put it in your base prius, and then have navi?

That is what this is - I have a basic stock II - no JBL, and this plugs in. The Navi is what you do - you can use Route66 (shipped with), or something else. I'm running iGO ver8, and it is amazing. BUT - READ the posts. There are + and - to this thing (and others).

I found a NEW bug today - the first station out of each 8 station preset on FM (not AM) does not keep its programming. So now we are down to 6 out of 8 of each page works. For me, I can live with knowing that - but it's one of those annoying things.

You have to weigh the + and the -. Right now, amazing GPS on demand (can program while driving - with silly options like red light cam alerts, speeding alerts etc), fun things like DVD (and in my case TV/games for the kids on long trips), and others make it OK.

Funny thing, after reporting these things, they said send it back, and they'll give a refund (???) - more so they can test - but they can test anyways - so again support is NOT GOOD!

    TTFN!

Do you mind sharing someone screen shots? If it hasn't been already posted, I am mainliny interested in a shot of parking sensor in work, how it's displaying the distance on the screen.
Also though it sounds like you haven't put the sensors in the bumper so you may not get this yet.

Not until I install it  - but you can see from the link (Japan install) what it most likely looks like. I do know it's in meters and not feet,

The issues with the radio seem software related. Do you know whom the manufacturer of your particular unit is? I have read of others being sent software updates to download to correct software problems.

How are the speakers in the II with the new HU? I wonder about buying the III for the additional speakers but does that make getting signal to them from the HU more difficult since there are more?

I purposely did not upgrade speakers until I've got many hours on this thing. The base sound is *far* better than the stock Prius stereo. At some point, I may swap the speakers - but now there's really no hurry.

Listening to IPod tunes and FM radio sounded better (vocals - even bass - generally more dynamic) after placing in the HU.

I made no other changes (speakers), and the HU was set tonally flat (meaning no bass/treble boost).

    1. It keeps its settings after the HU is removed from the car - so yes it keeps its settings.

    2. The speakers as they stand are not awful. Swapping HU shows better sound. I've been listening to it flat (no bass/treble) for a few weeks, and its not bad.. Today, I played a bit - added front gain (treble, mid), and it was better. I'm purposely taking my time - trying to be more subjective in my opinions... Could I throw in a few of my Dynaco tune amps, or my 250w/ch 1600w 32 tube ARC - yes - but that defeats the purpose - and adds fuel economy due to the interior heat... I am happy as it sits - it sounds decent - and likely would gain with a 3.5" in the front (in place of the tweeter - or in Toyota's words "squaker").

I may end up returning the thing (open invitation) - but I really *like* 95% - it's a few bugs and FM reception that keep the door open - that and support. They are *gone* for a week (normal if you deal a lot with Asian countries - but annoying none-the-less) - so at some point I will know about the bugs, and how they can be addressed....

The rear cam is now working, and the distance sensors seems to be valuable... The cam I bought (better specs) is not better than our Lexus GX - so I may swap that - but it works.........

That is a WinCE stylus - the old school thing that was shipped with Palm devices... It came with the radio, and it's kinda fun to use on dumb touch screens (very finite in its use). You don't need it, but I like the idea that I have this thing that extends, and "touches" the touch screen :)

As for Aliens, Cheese and whatever, there is a football game this week between the Vikings and Green Bay - it is rumored that something (or someone) has taken over / is controlling Farve - Farve used to work for Wisconsin, Wisconsin is known for cheese, fans have been said to be called "cheese heads" - head cheese is made of cows and or sheep, sheep have been linked to aliens - please reference this nice blog. rrolff, can you take a photo of the unit from the drivers seat showing some of the other functions?
I'm interested in the wash out of the screen from the angle of the drivers seat.

Really, my camera isn't doing it justice. The Ebay pics are *spot* on. They are as good/better than those. There is no angle/washout... But- when sun comes in from the side/top, you do get glare.

I know on our Lexus GX, we have a little ledge above the player, and when on a long haul, we place a DVD in that space, and you can watch a movie.

The display is very nice - but again, in the light, not perfect - but I know that is life (there are even Prius "hoods" you can buy). I went so far as to ask the Ebayer what the dimensions were (thinking I may buy it if it was similar), but got no response.

I would not recommend this unit before some of these bugs are worked out in the AM/FM - and I have gotten better reception.

I'm trying to find a schematic to verify the antenna amp is either working or not, and have not figured that out. It's all livable, but I'm more striving for perfection - as best as can be made... I'm leaning towards dumping this if they can't figure out support (long term upgrades etc), and trying something new. That does not say I don't like it - it's amazing for everything it does - I just don't like turning on the car to FM, and finding its on some random station (picky). I'm sure there is a solution - but it's some random Chinese holiday, and when they leave, they leave. Add that to a built in (before mentioned) support delay, and you get... Silence.

Do I *really* like it, yes. Do I love the navi et al - yes. Do I like the OEM look - yes.......

The FM issues are no deal killer. The A2DP might be.
    Support- Meh.
I still intend to get one. but I'll have to wait until the end of the year. $300/mo summer power bills wiped my savings out.

What does your bumper look like after you added the sensors?

A2DP is a straight direct function of an iPhone bug. A2DP was implemented in OS 3.0, and works - *but* the skip track (forward reverse) has a bug - so no matter what device you connect, it just won't work. SOme have rumored it's fixed in OS 3.1, but I run TMobile - and am waiting for a stable release of the Jailbreak (what makes a iPhone run outside ATT). However, I do not think it has yet been fixed, nor do I want to spend the time to find out... It sits in a cup holder, and does the things I ask it... For bumper please look at that thread - {IMVVVHO} it looks really good....... The Vs are very in case anyone is wondering - I am happy that it perfectly matches my paint, and perfectly looks flawless...
