XM subscription pricing

As I posted in the other thread $77 is still there now plus royality fee but you can save $12 by giving them your vredit card to store.

I had the $77 / year in my other car and it does renew at full rate but I called them and said I want to cancel as it was too expensive and the gave me another year. When the prius came up I asked about a better deal and they gave me 5 months for $19.99. I then changed my other one to the same deal.
They wanted a $2 extra fee to create an invoice. You can do this so they do not charge athe renewal automatically or you can give them CC and they will cahrge when the renewal starts. Either way you call back and get the same deal again.
Only bad news I see besides having to call them every 5 months is I could not add Traffic or Best of Sirius to the deal. I have heard of people adding them to $77 rate.

You can not sign up for either of the deals until a few days before your current trial expires but you can negociate down any deal you have already paid. Just tell them you want to cancel, then get lower deal to stay.

Mine was just for the radio. She was ready to offer me a rate to add on the Nav but I told her I was not interested before she told me what it would be. She also offered me a hand held radio for $9.00 but I turned that down also. Probably should have taken that. It is good to hear I may be able to get another deal at the end of the first year.

 

I received a similar offer. I believe the radio would be free with a year-long contract. I didn't see the use for it, so I "let it go."

 

For three years I have had XM. Initially got a great promotional rate and when that was about to expire I called up PROMOTIONS (you have to ask for the PROMOTIONS desk when you call XM's toll free number as the regular operators cannot negotiate) to discuss renewing at a discounted rate. I had run an internet search and found many people were getting a $77 rate. I was able to get that at the first renewal. The next go round I had to call back twice, but finally got a PROMOTIONS operator willing to give me the $77 rate again. Last month we had to disconnect XM b/c the receiver had been stolen out of our car. Before getting it replaced and reconnected they sent me 3 different emails with various rates to convince me to "return to XM." When I finally got the car back today with the new equipment and called to reinstate the account, the operator could only sign me up with the $142 rate. When I asked for the $77 rate, she said only PROMOTIONS could do that. She connected me and they did.

If you want XM it is worth it to make the calls at the end of your contract to get a better price.

 

None that I'm aware of. NAVTraffic is $9.95 a month, or $3.99 a month with a radio subscription.

 

I don't understand this whole XM radio thing. There's always stations out there and mine has a 6 disc
changer that is MP3 compatible so you're talking 150-200 songs on each disc. Don't we all
have enough monthly bills to pay already?

 

I've never seen local radio stations that can hold a candle to XM radio. I love all sorts of music and XM/Sirius have channels for basically all of them. They play a lot of non-mainstream music too. I've discovered lots of bands that I end up being a fan of from XM/Sirius (bands that local radio would never play.) There's one channel where they play nothing but acoustic versions of famous songs (what a great channel)

Also, there is tons of talk radio on XM/Sirius. They have channels like The Virus, and the two Howard Stern channels. You absolutely can not get these channels anywhere else. If you like news stations or anything else there are channels dedicated to that. There are stations where you can just hear stand up comics, etc.

Basically, XM radio is infinitely better than local radio stations.

Even if you put those 200 x 6 songs on CDs, you're stuck with those songs. With satellite radio you get anything you want.

 

Yes, and to me it's not worth hundreds of dollars a year, but $77, I'd go for.

There's 2 main stations I listen to, WDAV(Classical) and 95.7 "The Ride" Classic rock with no talk radio.

 

I guess I should have said it's not for everyone.

Personally I enjoy all the talk radio and it makes it easier for me to drive slower (or, that is, more appropriately!)

 

It appears you've jumped in mid-thread! Earlier on in this thread are several postings from persons who've received the $77/year price. One of the more recent is by GoSkins in this post.

Others have posted their successes in getting this price in another thread: XM Trial Ending, Discounts On Renewal? This includes me -- here's my post in that thread.

It was pretty easy to get the deal. I called in and gave them my XM radio ID number (tune to channel 01 and you'll see it displayed). They said "Oh, you want to renew!" I said yes, for $77/year. The operator said "OK!"

 

I can listen to some talk radio on NPR where you get both sides but
that's the only one I can listen to. I seriously doubt we continue our
subscription.

 

Yes, that's what we be saying. As for the CD thing, been there done that. The same songs (hundreds of them) are on the Ipod, the computer and CDs. I'm tired of hearing them and trying to keep up with the recording of new songs, etc. It's nice to have any type of songs I want to listen to at the moment, at random, when in driving.

I agree. It doesn't make any sense. With AM, FM, and multiple CD disks already in my Prius- what good is XM? I occasionally listen to it (my 3 month free trial period is not over yet), and my music CDs and the local AM/FM stations provide better choices - for free.

As far as traffic assistance with XM, I never needed it with my Garmin portable GPS. With my new 2010 Prius and the factory installed NAV system, why would I suddenly need it now?

In my opinion it's just a way to throw away hard earned money for something that provides no Prius enhancements that I don't already have.

To each his own! Just remember your monthly fee on XM will cost less than buying 1 new CD per month.

 

I have to admit, I was never interested in XM radio until I got my 3-month subscription in my 2010 Prius. Now I'm hooked. I realize it's a personal preference, but for me, you can't go wrong at $90ish for a year ($77 plus music royalty fee).

I have accumulated a nice library of music CDs over a long period of time, and friends keep giving me new ones almost every month (all purchased legally at retail outlets). Can't imagine buying any more of them for years, and the kind of music I like doesn't loose its beauty.

Of course, as you say, to each his own. Aah, The Ink Spots, they made that song (To Each His Own) really fly. What a great group!

As for what XM offers, did I hear "Howard Stern"?
