Is that a single stripe or two? You did a great job. Did you have to do anything special to prep the car (i.e., wash it to remove any wax, etc.)? Is there anything you need to increase the durability so it's not hanging off next time you wash the car?

It's two stripes - each 16th" with a 16th" gap. There's clear light tape over them so the install is straightforward - then the clear tape is stripped off once the stripe's applied.

I cleaned with a swipe of an alcohol pad along the area. Started on the left side of each panel (since I'm right-handed), applied the farthest left area. Apply the leftmost piece and lightly bring the tape towards the car holding the tape slightly taut as you slide your finger adhering toward the right. Do one panel at a time - the fender - door - door - fender. Make sure you eyeball from the rear/front perspective to ensure a straight line across panels. When happy, apply heavy pressure with your finger along the entire stripe. Cut the edges with Exacto knife. Hard to explain but quite easy to do with some patience. BTW - a google search of how to apply pinstriping tape may produce good instructions, perhaps with pictures as well.
Good luck! I love mine - very subtle, but add some dimension on the sides.

Thanks! I like the way you've placed it. How long ago did you apply it and how is it holding up (e.g., after car washing)?

I'm thinking about adding a silver pinstripe to my winter grey. Or maybe another color -- any suggestions?

Put them on in July - so over 3 months. They look as good now as install day. Re wax etc, I would recommend not to wax over the stripes as it will leave white residue eventually along parts of the raised stripe edges. May not be noticeable on silver. Best way to remove the whitish residue is run a fingernail across the edge. If properly cared for, and installed with good prep, they should last pretty much the life of the car. Nice part is; they can be easily removed too.

Color - it took me 4 stripe colors to finally decide. Thought a buff would look good on the red, then gold, then platinum. All were too bright. So decided on the black. Just right IMO. Silver on yours sounds good. Platimun may be nice too. Recommend to look at a car accessory store - AutoZone, PepBoys, etc. They should have several stripe colors you may like - ask if you could bring them out to your car and hold them close to your finish. Also there are many sources for pinstriping online.

I really like the pinstripe look - accentuates the raised side crease nicely.

Here is my pin striped Prius. Dealer installed for me for free as they did on all Prius'. The pin strip is light gray which matched my Winter Gray color.

I know it's a personal matter - but I prefer the strip just under the side crease, not over.

Dealer puts it above the crease line with a visible gap. So you will see both the strip and the crease as 2 parallel lines. I am thinking placing another line below the crease. May be that will be too much ...

I like the color -- I also have Winter Grey and am looking for something pretty subtle.

    I agree.

Here are a couple of pictures of my new pinstripe. I bought the tape and then had the dealer's body shop install it. They only charged me $30 (which is a lot better than the dealer's original quote of a $120 or something like that for one hour's labor). I really like it, except that I think that he should have stopped the stripe a little shorter at the front and back (but I hadn't given specific directions about how far to take it). He had a hard time with it because I had polished my car the day before and he didn't clean that part off before applying the stripe!

I liked the understated look of DeanFL's stripe and went with his choice of stripe width and placement -- "double skinny" -- two 1/16th-inch stripes 1/16th-inch apart, placed just below the crease.

The color is silver metallic. I wanted it to be more of a subtle emphasis of the crease rather than a contrasting stripe. I felt that white would have been too bright but the darker charcoal would probably have been a bit too subtle.

I'm sorry the pictures aren't that clear -- I can't seem to prevent the stripe from looking jagged when the picture is magnified -- and the car isn't that clean because I took them while on my long road trip.

I'm also including a picture of it pre-pinstripe for comparison.

Oh, btw, I had never particularly liked pinstripes. I always thought of them as being dated and kind of chintzy looking. On many cars, the pinstripe placement does nothing to enhance the lines of the car -- it just looks a piece of tape. When I asked the guy at the body shop who took my order for some advice, he just said, "I hate pinstripes." However, I liked the pictures I'd seen of pinstripes on the 2010 Prius and the way it shows off the crease. I especially think it's good on the winter grey because otherwise the car is very plain.

Pinstripe? I know it's a matter of personal taste, but I went to full graphics 20 years ago and love installing them myself. Here's the two-color graphic treatent I added to my 2010:

Further, my graphics have never peeled off. I've kept a car as long as 9 years and they still looked as good as new. When I'm ready to sell I can easily remove them, if needed.

I will be installing Reflective stripes on my "V" once the weather in NY warms above 60 degrees needed to cure the adhesive. The stripes are made using 3M's 680 Highly Reflective Vinyl. I did this on my 2007, which you can see on the Photo Album section, the Prius was a 2007 Touring Edition in Black with a white and a blue stripe. They standout amazingly well at night, and add a measure of safety to the car as well as look good.

The 2010 prius offers a better side profile for this than even the older model. When I have it finished I'll post the pics in the albums section as well.

It is too bad the graphic didn't align with the lower body line folded into the steel with the blue horizontal line of the graphic, it would have looked more like it was designed for the car, less like it was just an off the shelf graphic pasted on the car.

Pinstripping on 2010 Prius. Took about 30 minutes. Real easy. Tried to match the blue of the Toyota emblem. I'm sure it's a matter of taste, but the sides are rather boring. Added molding last week.

i saw a Prius in Tacoma, WA that had the wide triple pinstripe bisecting the length of the car ala a late 70's Capri. it was ummm...interesting (political correct term for alarming)

now, if you want the "modern" option talk to Rae Vynn and she can tell you how to customize your car with "cow spots"
