FI via a small turbo like a small Garrett or IHI to minimize turbo lag would be a better idea.

I think everyone should spend 1 or 2 years driving a Hybrid, it would change the way they drive. It did for me, although I no longer have a Hybrid, I practice the same driving technique in what ever vehicle I drive(except the F350). Even though I drive a larger car now, I still get tailgaters, they get so close I cant see their lights. Gee could it be because I drive the speed limit, or is it because I don't mash the pedal to race to the next red light?

I'm not sure I get tailgated more in the Prius, but I do notice it more. Our previous cars were a Sienna and an RX350 so tailgaters didn't seem to be as much of a threat.

But one thing I have noticed is, when I slow down and the tailgater passes me, he invariably tailgates someone else.

I've had lots of people speed up to close the gap when I put on my turn signal. So many that I just expect it to happen 90% of the time. I pity those people, who (I believe) feel powerless in their personal lives and try to compensate by acting-out on the highway. "I may have to take crap from my boss/husband/wife, but that little patch of pavement is MINE and nobody's going to take it away from me."

As far as disrespect, I haven't gotten worse than pointed questions, like "Yeah but can you keep up with traffic in the mountains?" I admit that the Prius works hard to maintain the max speed limit over long passes and up around 10,000 feet . . . but so do a lot of cars and trucks.

I was once in a judge's chambers for a pretrial conference. He had a poster on the wall that said, "Living well is over-rated. Revenge is the best revenge."

For those unfamiliar with the book "The High and the Mighty" I highly (pardon the pun) recommend you find one at Amazon.com. While it's about the rise of the SUV along with it's safety/environmental hazards, the most interesting part is why people drive what they drive. Google Clotair Raptille is you want some outragous remarks about car design...he designed the PT cruiser as a 30's Mafia car and promoted the hulking trucks....he did not but would have loved designing the Hummer....google Clotair Raptille Hummer.

On that note, yes - some people buy a large vehicle.....men to be the baddest *$@# -women in the parnoid Grizzly motherbear mentality.

Expanding this to a more general level, people often behave irrationally....in Star Trek - logic trumps emotion, but in 2009 on Earth, people like this bitter old man don't think. :(

    Hi M8's,

I get SUV's tailgating me just before turns on occaision. I am coasting down of course, to avoid using the brakes. When an SUV gets that close, they can't check the speedometer, and the longer period of time than they are used to from cruising to turning is kinda like an off-speed pitch. For some reason they think they are going allot slower than they are when we reach the corner. Invariably they nail their brakes in mid turn to avoid lifting a rear wheel. End result is I am 75 yards ahead of the SUV when back to the speed limit.

I agree, But when the time comes when I'm driving a truck and somebody looks at me funny driving an econobox, I could give two turds what anybody thinks about what I drive.

Two way street. You drive what you drive, I'll drive what I drive.

Don't sit in the left lane thats meant for passing, doing 55MPH.

The number one lane is for faster folks... everybody else, move to the right.

Unless you're in a HOV qualified vehicle in the lane in certain States...
