I was wondering what people are doing for garbage in the Gen3 Prius. I have seen some Gen2 options on the board, but they won't work in the Gen3. I am looking for something nicer and more permanent than just a plastic bag on the floor.

I know there are some Japanese accessories, but they seem a little expensive for trash. (See sigmaauto dot com for accessories).

    I would appreciate any help.
    Thanks.

I've wondered the same thing...there's just no place I can see to place or hang a bag.

That said, we'll really probably need two bags anyway...one for garbage and the other for recycleables.... ;)

Yeah this is the one Sigma Automotive has. Does seem expensive for $85 for what it is...

    Oh, YOU'RE the one! ;)

Seriously though I hate it when I see blatant littering disregard for keeping our environment clean...it's arrogant, rude and uncivil behavior. And, it costs all of us to clean up after them. I've seen so many offenses over the years that only seem to get worse with time. Not sure if I'm just more atuned to it or if our society just cares less and less about our environment as times goes by. Don't they teach these kids any respect for themselves, other people and the spaces we inhabit anymore?!?!?

That's not a bad solution...but I don't want to have to reach way back there to toss stuff in the slot...and it seems like a real obstacle- I like all that room back there (not that I ever really use it!). Right now I find myself just wadding up my bits of paper or trash and putting it in the "bottle holder" on my door. Maybe I need to find a liner for it instead? Hmmm...if I were a "plastics" kind of guy I'd make an expandable foam mold from the inside of the bottle holder and then create a semi-rigid plastic drop in receptacle with a closing lid on it for easy removal and cleaning of it...maybe even enlarge the top portion so you could store more trash in it easily...anybody wanna go into business with me on it???

These collapsable trash cans cost about $10. I have had this one in three cars and it is still going strong. Just take the headrest off and put the rod through the loop.

Actually most of my trash goes on the passenger floor until I decide to clean it out. Usually when I have a passenger or at the gas station, whichever comes first.

I use the same can, but use the velcro on the bottom to hold it in place behind the center console.

Or sneeze/cough into tissue paper, or unwrap consumer goods, or drag in something on your shoe soul, or wash your windows, or discard your gas receipts, or do ....

I usually wait till I'm on the interstate to start doing my paperwork. That way I can just steer with my knee and set cruise control.

I took the $2 trashcan out of my Gen 2 and put it in my beautiful new Gen 3. I have a small brick in the bottom to keep it upright. I use a stainless steel reusable water bottle so no plastic. Easy!

Now ask me how I got my daughter's mascara out of the headliner...

I just hang a small plastic trash can with its lip on a strap from behind passenger seat.

Here's my solution. Under $10 for a nylon collapsible trashcan and a few strips of velcro. It works great! 20130804_135949-1.jpg 20130804_135826.jpg 20130804_135826.jpg 20130804_135949-1.jpg 20130804_135826.jpg

    Hmm....

I was unaware how big an issue this is for a lot of people.
I guess everyone approaches things differently but my approach is simply to try NOT to generate a lot of trash in my automobile.
I think having a receptacle just encourages keeping and generating trash in your automobile.
I'll travel with drinks and on a long road trip, I'll stop and get snacks...but for wrappers or other things I simply clean it out at the next opportunity. In the interim for that short period, I'll use the sack the store gave me.

Of course I'm single, and we're not talking about a family here. So that might make a big difference. But even when I was a kid, my parents, and in my family, the car was for traveling. We typically weren't allowed to bring or eat a lot of food in the car. I remember going to an A&W drive in, where they brought the food to the car. It felt "rebellious".

I'm not admonishing any of you. I realize people approach car usage and the car environment differently. I've seen them in stores, but the idea of traveling with a permanent trash receptacle never even has occurred to me. I guess I'm pretty anal about just keeping trash out of my vehicle.

Of course...I have an anti-static brush in the glove compartment, and when stopped from time to time I brush off the dash.....

So maybe I'm not the norm here.
