OK, is it me or should I expect that a vehicle costing over $30K should come with at least a high/low switch on the heated seats? How much more could it cost to do it right instead of a very cheap option? I have to shut it off after a few minutes of use because it just gets too hot… This gets me shaking my head trying to understand the lack of logic behind this stupid decision… :frusty:

Notice that I didn't even mention the switch placement which is a whole other subject matter...

If you continue to leave it on after it gets hot during those first few minutes, it is my experience that it 'tones itself down' and then never seems to get as hot again. Maybe it does but since you are acclimated to it you just don't feel it as much like you do at the beginning.

Having said that, I agree, I would have liked to see two mode heated seats. All of my previous cars before my 2006 Prius with heated seats did have 2 settings for the heated seats. But after not having them in my 2006 I'll take when I can get! lol

I know where you're coming from, even though my IV was under $30k. It's been a long time since I had a car without the ability to adjust the seat heat level.

My husband finds that the seat gets a little too warm before it shuts off. On the other hand, I could happily turn it up a bit before it shuts off. I found that it will cycle on again before I get too cold. On raw, cold, wet, windy days like today, I appreciate it.

I have also found that they warm quite nicely and quick. It does also seem that as it is left on, either your body acclimates to it, but after the initial heatup, it seems to not be so hot that I need to turn them off. I have tried this several times now and find it to be quite comfortable. I don't really find it an issue....now as for the button location, they could have done better, agreed.

But because we have cold weather for 4+ months a year I leave the buttons on most of the time during this cold period.

    Hey Lynnfield MA! :welcome:

I agree that the heater should have more than just an 'On' setting. However this is the first time Prius has even had a seat heater (and it's one of those things I can't live without anymore) Yes. the placement of the switch is lousy too. But last week when the temps dipped, I pushed that little button and was very happy to bake my buns!

I would just be happy if they stayed "on" at the same level. Just when I get nice and warm , they cool down.

I have not yet noticed (even with using the heated seats every day the last 2 weeks around Chicago), that the seat heaters cycle on and off.

Have we confirmed anywhere that this is actually the case?

Having used the seat heaters this past week, mine cycle on & off as long as the switch is depressed. They seem to work well enough for me (although the last six vehicles I've owned with seat heaters had five levels of adjustment).

Well, it got down to 49 here night Saturday night (brr). First time to really try the heated seats. Had a passenger - so review is L&R.

    1. Switch position is awkward, old news. If it HAD to be there, would have been better to orient the switch horizontally. ie right control bit closer to right seat, left for driver's seat - rather than up/down.

    2. Seats heated rather quickly; about the same as my old Lexus.

    3. Element placement seem OK - about right warming area for the butt and lower back.

    4. Saturday night seemed as if they heated to a nice degree, then cooled down some after 10 min or so and never reached the original warmth temp. Of course, this is a 'seat of the pants' subjective mention.

    5. I used them this morning on a 40 miles drive - it was 51 out. Just me, and the driver's seat heated up quickly - then seemed to maintain the temp pretty well. Just about right all around. Maybe needed to break in a bit...

My complaints would be switch placement/orientation - it would be awfully nice to have High/Low at least. But as first year in-Prius performance - I'd give Toyota 1 1/2 butt-cheek approval rating.

Best heated seats I had were in my 96 Audi A4. It had a rheostat from 1-6 so you could accurately dial in the right amount of heat. I bet Toyota will change to a hi-lo in their next model year. They did this in a 1999 Lexus RX300 I owned. They actually did a mid-year change which I was surprised at. People complained and they changed it. Speak up to Toyota and they WILL listen.

I am just thrilled that they could be had in the 2010...With the cold Climate in Buffalo, they are wonderful at keeping your "Buns" warm!

Gotta have a co-pay at the Chiroprator for "Heat" :)

Mine works fine. They cycle as they should. Only complaint as has been mentioned a million times, is the placement of the switch (especially for the passenger). Trying to remember back to my 07 Camry, XLE, and my previous Chevy's....I only recall them having an on and off, so guess I'm not missing anything there - they were all over $30,000 also.

Yes, they should have more than one setting. I also find it very ironic that the "Leather Package" here in Canada comes with high/low heated seats (two-stage) while the factory one is only on/off.

To Toyota's credit, they do cycle on/off.
