I have a black Honda CRV (non-metalic) and Blue Ribbon Metalic Prius. Its beautiful but a royal pain in the...to keep clean. Even in my garage as it hardly comes out (CRV under lease so using up miles). Then if you take it out in the sun, you can see the swirls from people who got their hands on it between the ship and me...The black shows a ton of scratches near the handles. No more dark colors for me. Silver was so much easier to care for....so strongly urge you to consider with Silver or Pearl (even though its white to me :D. One less person or thing to clean up after!

after they settle, they usually dont pay at all. but when my 04 was wrecked, the covering insurance company accepted blame right away, i got a rental 2 days after the accident and because of the unusual claim, it had to be processed by 3 different reps before they could agree to issue me a check, so i drove their rental 3½ weeks before they issued me a check. they then told me i had 24 hours to return the rental or start charging it to the card i had to put on rental form. check did not arrive for 7 days.

the issue; paying me $23,800 on a 25 month old $20,000 car with over 30,000 miles on it.

I totaled mine last month. Well, the drunk driver who hit me totaled it. Either way, thank heaven you and your family are all ok! It looks like a total loss to me. Mine was in a little worse shape, but they'll generally call it a loss if the airbags deploy on both sides (according to my insurance agents).

Like others said, if the frame is damaged then it's a done deal. It'll cost more to fix it than to replace it.

Yes, get a lawyer and do not give a statement to your insurance or her insurance. Do not talk to anyone except for your lawyer and the adjuster. I didn't feel too awful for the first day after the accident. It's a month later and I can barely walk, need PT 2-3 times a week into 2010, and they're afraid my hip may be damaged so I'm getting sent for an MRI.

Just seeing the mention of a few incidents now (hopefully no more, touch wood). Toyota have certainly done a fantastic job with the design of the ZVW30R - it's certainly keeping occupants safe and unharmed in serious accidents. I wonder if the NCAP agencies will introduce a tougher 6 star rating, cos' I reckon the Prius could easily get it.

Yikes ! Glad all are OK!

I took 2 years of auto body & frame repair, and no matter how much expertise and care we would take, with damage this extensive, the car / paint is never "quite" the same. ( Short of a complete restoration, which is cost prohibitive )

Then, you gotta deal with the issue when it's time to trade or sell the car.

I'd push for a "total" if it were me, especially if you have "gap" insurance coverage.

    Good Luck!

I would let the other person's insurance company you will not accept a repair. With only 1000 miles on it they need to pay you what you paid for the vehicle. If they balk let them know your neck/back is starting to bother you. I have been in a couple of severe crashes and I just let them know that if they don't give me what I want, I will not settle and will see them in court. All insurance companies act like they are doing you a favor by making you what they consider a reasonable offer and if you don't accept it then you are being unreasonable. They make billions in profits don't let them bully you.

I can't believe they are giving you grief over $1,000. Usually they don't want to tick you off so that you file a BI (bodily injury claim). As I mentioned before, do NOT sign a release for the BI whatever you do!!!!

Next conversation you have, you might want to mention that one of the passengers is considering going to the doctor to have a sore neck looked at and you want to know how to handle that should they go. Ask to who and where would the bills get sent. See if you get their attention at all. Often another adjuster would handle the BI. Those bills would all be picked up by them. A car backed into the passenger side of a car I was in a few years ago and after a few weeks I did develop a neck ache. Not only did they pay for treatment (xrays confirmed the strain), they gave me a $500 check for my pain. I didn't sign a relase for the BI until I was sure I was fine.

Are you doing this all alone or is your insurance company involved at this time? If they aren't involved, you might want to mention to them you're going to turn it in to yours and let them fight it out. Of course your collision deductible would come into play but if your company gets all of the money back from the other company they will reimburse you your deductible.

    Good luck.

I just got a $500 check. If that's all they think I want for the pain, they have another thing coming. I've missed 60 hours of work and I have to go to physical therapy through 2010. $500 my nice person.

Glad you are all APPEARING to be OK! With a baby involved, I would think there would be a little more concern from the insurance, but, of course, insurance company employees are not paid to be concerned about anything besides bottom line (unless it is their own kid involved). Seems like there should be a thread about good insurance companies somewhere, and there may be, I just haven't looked really hard.

I just wanted to say sorry for the loss of your brand new Prius, but, I'm glad to hear everyone is ok. I hope you are fairly compensated and that the other driver has learned a lesson to never do that again.
