Please help me name the late, much-lamented and highly hono(u)red Rufaro's successor. He is a 3lb2oz, 8 weeks and 2 days old, boy toy (poodle). He is either caramel, cinnamon, cafe au lait or ginger, depending on who you ask. If, after all my time here on PriusChat I have figured it out, there is a picture of him attached. Seeing as this is just about the smartest and funniest group of people I know, this should be fun...For the record, I've already considered and rejected a ton of names--but I won't tell what they are 'cause that'd spoil the fun!

(And this is taking a VERY long time to type, as I have a lap and 1 hand full of a squirmy puppy who ate over an hour ago and WELL NOT go potty as and where directed...)

    Let the games begin!

You could go with Sequel...since he's the puppy AFTER the "late, much-lamented and highly hono(u)red Rufaro."

You could also call him Beta (which is the second letter in the Greek alphabet following Alpha...or the Alpha Dog Rufaro). I like using the Greek alphabet to name my animals and a few of my favs are Alpha (or Allie for short), Kappa (or Kappy), Sigma and Omega. All are unique!

You could go with Deuce...as in #2...after Rufaro.

    Random name...Tink.

    Techy name...Gizmo.

OMG... he is ADORABLE!!! He almost looks like a mix (maltypoo). The reason I say that is because the face looks like a Maltese. My baby girl's name is Star. Her brother (not related) passed away almost a year ago :(. His name was Nando. As to a name, well there is nothing wrong with using the same name. It may give you some comfort. Give the puppy a HUGE hug from uncle David.

Congratulations, he is a cutie no matter what you end up naming him.

Somehow I knew you wouldn't be without a faithful companion for long. :)

Colour names like Cinnamon and Ginger tend to sound rather...feminine, though the curls rule out something tough like Ruffian. He looks more regal than that - almost like an Auberon or a Beauregard, but that's getting pretentious, and Paddington is a bear's name. A coffee name would suit him - I was going to say Mocha, too, or Carma...or, you could call him Bindi, after the spot on his head.

Thank you all for playing! AND for your kind words on my new family member.

Some of the suggestions DO keep recurring. All of the suggestions thus far have merit, but, for whatever reason, nothing is yet falling trippingly off my tongue.

Some random thoughts...Rufarioii (but, having spent the last 13.5 years explaining my dog's name, I think I'll give that train a miss this time around), Gizmo or Gadget (for the Gremlins, not techs), Xanax, Lexapro, Prozac (those 3 amuse me, but do not, I think, have "legs" for the long run), Brunel (because of his association with Paddington--and he DOES look distinctly bearish, but that's probably just his puppy hairdo), Pyewacket (a cat's name), Nemo (a fish), and Asta (a girl), Temeraire (wings), Fergus (but this one has all of his limbs), Mycroft (but we don't know yet if he's smarter than anyone, ditto Yogi), Ollie (because he is Cafe Ollie colored :p), and on and on...

I AM avoiding feminine sounding names--he's got enough problems with masculinity, being a poodle and all (I think he only looks malty because he's not at all trimmed)--but I've already thought of and discarded Butch. And Sundance.

I'd name him Johnny if Mr. Depp would come up and see us sometime...

My sister recently got a dog--a 9lb, 14-month old Chihuahua. We went through the naming thing with him. Someone in the family hit on Loki, who is often thought of as the Norse god of mischief. We got there and stopped. Loki googled his name, and proceeded to fulfill his name's promise. We took away his computer privileges. In any case, we hit on Loki and just KNEW it was his name. We haven't yet reached that point with this guy...C'mon gang--don't let us down here! Little Gizmo (as in MacGuffin, or what you call something until actual identity is established) is depending on you!

Not unless he's a VERY bad doggie!

I used to have an electric bicycle that I called Christine, since she kept throwing me off...
Too much like "Brute," which, again, has (for me, anyway) bad connotations. I mean, he hasn't stabbed me (yet)...

I'm getting concerned that "Gizmo" is sticking...

More stray thinking...I think about what a name will sound like when you run, chasing down the street, yelling it, and what will it get shortened or diminutized(?!) to. Gizmo's a problem because of Gitmo...:(
