2010 Cargo Net issues and resolution (panel separation)

Thank you, Dianne. You continue to be the BEST. I expect when I come in for my 5000 (still a good 1500 away) this issue will be well known and no problem to fix.

Unfortunately, of the 2 of 10, 9 out of 10 of us did not want the cargo port installed option. It was take it or leave it since there were so few cars in July.


My dealer was in Idaho - another reason I will NEVER buy a car out of my metro area again. The local dealer who will get my service business already is eating the cost of replacing the black panels in between the side windows (and end caps) due to the selling dealer putting paint sealant over them. They have been back ordered over a month!

It ruined the finish by permanently clouding it up. So he should not have to pay for this too. Thus, I called Toyota national again today and said either refund the $80 or issue a fix to the local dealer so they don't pay for it. They opened a case and will get back to me - I am not holding my breath

 

I'm with you - A cargo net was not on my list of must-haves last July, but the car was. Now I have a net that will damage the interior of the car if used. I'm not going to the purchasing dealer for service so... I paid big bucks for a useless net. Arrgggg.

 

No MaggieMay! Go to your dealer, like I did, and tell them to order the cargo net fix kit and get it installed on the warranty. It's only $24.00 and they should not hve a problem with that.

The Cargo net issue was finally resolved . After Toyota reps got involved the problem was fixed. First the CARGO NET FIX IT KIT was installed, this looked ridiculous, and I told them I was not happy with it. (Sorry I didn’t take any pics of this). Then they decided to replace the whole panel. Looks like new now. Thanks to DCH South Bay Toyota in torrance for doing a good job. They were very helpful. (Could be because Toyota reps were involved). They were pretty good about everything.

Ps. If the Cargo net was port installed it should be covered by warranty and should be fixed at any Toyota dealer. Manhattan beach Toyota wanted to charge me $90 to fix it.
If dealers are not willing to make the fix, call Toyota customer service

 

Thanks for the pics. Looks like the panels are not aligned properly though, could it be that the bolt is too tight? Is it like that on the other side as well?

 

I finally went in to my dealer to have the 'cargo net kit' fix installed. It was late in the afternoon when I got there so I didn't know if there was enough time for them to do the job. As soon as I saw the "kit" I told them to just let me have it and I'd do the 'install' myself.

As I think has been mentioned, it consists of two black plastic plugs to fill the existing holes after you unscrew the plastic hooks. Then there are two metal hooks which fit on the screws which secure the panels to the body; right where the cargo cover tab slots live. An easy fix and covered under warranty.

 

Is anyone else concerned about this? My car is about to hit the port and I'm thinking I should pay the difference in price for the cargo net and get it from the dealer so that they install it and I can hold them liable for it if it happens in my car.

 

Simple if you get it put in at the dealer and something goes wrong you have to go back to that dealer, not anyone else. If you get it put in at the port, it will be under Toyota warranty and you could go to any dealer and get it fixed.

 

Going in for my 5000 today. Are they going know about this fix? Hope so.

 

Well, in my case they had to be "educated" and then after some research on their part, they had to order the 'kit'. A week later or so, they called and said to come in and have it installed. I took one look at the so-called kit and decided to just put it in myself rather than wait the 30 minutes it would have taken them to do the job. Easy fix.

 

I asked my dealer to order the kit, never heard back from them. I complained about it when I brought my car in for service, and they "tightened it." I am going to check it out before heading back and if it's loose I'm going to demand they order the kit to fix the problem.

 

I called Toyota today and was able to get the TSB number for the cargo net fix kit.

My dealer did not know what I was talking about when I first called, which is what prompted me to call Toyota.

 

I have an extended warranty from my dealer on my 2010 prius for which I paid about $1200. If I never use the warranty, and it expires, I get 100% of the cost refunded to me.

I wonder if this $25 fix will cost me $1200?
Perhaps I should demand to pay out of pocket and keep the receipt. Does anyone have any insight on this?

 

So we ordered a "cargo net" when we bought the car. What we received is a net that stretches flat over the cargo floor. This was expected since that is what was shown onthe Toyota website and in the brochure. We would prefer the vertical one shown in this thread to hold groceries upright. Is there a naming mistake we or the dealer made here? Is the vertical one not really called the "Cargo net"? Thanks.

Checked our paperworka nd the "cargo net" was part of the package we added that included the carpet mats, cargo mats, wheels locks, roadside assistance etc. It was called the "Owner Rewards Package". Still not sure why the mat we got is not like the one you all are discussing here.

 

The GST region does some screwy things with port installed options. If they add a cargo net at port, its always the horizontal net, that attaches to the existing hooks in the rear floor area. There's also a vertical net, shown here:

Since it didn't work well as originally designed, they had to come up with the new hooks shown in the picture.

 

Thanks for that info. I've got a $50 parts and accessories coupon from buying the car through the Costco program. How much would the vertical net cost?

 

Please tell me where you ordered a horizontal cargo net. I had one in my 2004 and I liked it alot better than the vertical one. I have not been able to find one that is for the 2010.

I'd be very surprised if the horizontal net produced for the 2009 isn't the same as the one for the 2010, or close enough to be used interchangeably. My port installed horizontal net was in May, before all the new accessories were even available, so I'd bet it's really just a 2009 net. In any case, both vertical and horizontal nets should be available through any dealer or online Toyota parts distributor. If you truly can't find it, I've got one going to waste. Such an offer I can make you!
