I have mentioned in a previous post that I have noticed the same thing since moving from a 2002 Honda Odyssey minivan to the Prius. Some people assume you can't accelerate quickly - how wrong is that? Watch out folks, I have POWER mode and I am NOT afraid to use it!

We find the same thing towing our pop-up camper behind my husband's newer model Yukon XL. (Of course the camper is so light we have to be careful to remember it's there.) People assume we can't maintain our speed up a hill - especially with little ole' me - a woman - driving. So when they start passing, it's always fun to maintain speed (ok, or speed up a LITTLE) to pass them on the uphill. Dorks.

I like the bumper sticker ideas...might have to look for those.

Hahaha, I like that even though I like to coast and keep my MPG as high as possible, same time I like to use PWR mode when needed! :)

It's not the Prius you are driving. It's the stupid guy driving the other car who is so jealous about your car. I think you made a mistake of "got to say something" when you got out of your car. You were actually inviting a confrontation. Remember, you might be in the right side but how do you know if the other guy wasn't drunk or under the influence of illegal substances. There might even be a gun in his/her procession. To avoid confrontation, first is to avoid eye contact. Second is take a deep breathe and think of your family. It may be hard for you to do if you are still young but you'll know when you get older and have more responsibilities on your shoulder. Just think of flying by these guys 3 times at the gas stations when you only have to go there once. You'll laugh them in your heart. Happy cruising.

I especially like to beat trucks and SUVs off the line at a stop light using the instant acceleration of the HSD system.

As to inconsiderate drivers I've run into them occasionally in every vehicle I've ever had over 40 yrs of driving. I just think that it's not so much the vehicle we're driving but the idiot in the other vehicle. I don't notice it any more in my Prius than I did in my Camry's or my Chrysler LHS in the past.

Also there aren't a whole lot of people that pass me. The ones that do are doing stupid speeds anyway.

The ironic thing is that they should get take out their frustions on the American Car manufactures. I would not buy a prius if they had
produced a car that is comparable to the Prius at a comparable price.

Facebook has a button you need in your car, ignore.
Your A-hole driver might have thought you were deliberately blocking him by keeping pace with him. Just a theory.
Drive with courtesy and make room when someone wants to move into your lane.
When people change lanes they often change again soon.
Shopping centre carparks are a lottery anyway, often the last car in gets the best spot.

    Stay cool, no shouting.

Before I bought my Pius I heard the car refered to as the "Prickus". I asked why and the person said they are always holding up the HOV lane and they are really slow. I said the GenIII prius has a higher top end than your pickup due to the governor that your truck has. The prius most likely gets better gas mileage a 100mph that your truck at 55mph. It just pissed them off and my job was done. I had another guy tell me I should not be allowed to drive in the HOV lane. When I asked him why he said because it should be for two or more people. I asked him if he thought motorcycles should be in the HOV lane and he said yes. I asked why and he said because the bike gets good gas mileage. I reminded him a Prius gets better mileage than a Harley and is quieter. I also reminded him the Prius gets better mileage than three gas type pickup trucks. He gave up arguing with me.

I had more issues with people when I drove my Corolla. I used to have daily run ins with BMW drivers. Now I seem to have issues with Honda Accords. And yesterday a Lexus.

I have to agree with the drivers here who just say "ignore them". I think getting behind the wheel of a car and surrounding yourself in a cocoon of glass and steel and then propelling said environment with you in it down an anonymous/equal access highway tends to make people behave in ways that they might not were they walking next to each other along a sidewalk. So, people who might be real nice when they're waiting your table or removing your tonsils or preaching a sermon might become real aggresive and idiotic behind the wheel of a car. I think this can be especially true for those who are angry and frustrated. The car gives them a platform to overcompensate for their lack of whatever it is they're missing in their life and gives them a venue to vent that frustration and anger. Whether it's a smaller genetilia, late bills made more difficult by higher gas prices, tight work/life schedule that DEMANDS they trim every second off their travel time, poor grades from lack of studying, etc... And being on an anoymous roadway with a lot of power at your fingertips and feet gives people who may feel a bit trampled on a bit too much power for their own good. You're not their target, their real target is something/someone else they've got going on inside their own head. You're just the opportunity and punching bag.

So, instead of getting mad, just show them a bit of sympathy and get out of their way as much as possible. Don't let their issues ruin your day too.

This thread points out a bigger problem. Road rage, HOV lanes, and angry drivers are all a symptom of too many cars on the road. Keep squeezing and the rats start to eat each other. We need better public transportation, fewer people, and a collective attitude adjustment.

It's not the car. I was in a rental in the Keys last week. A girl was behind me putting in her dracula teeth for her fantasy fest costume and rolling her hair. The speed limit is 45 mph and she was driving so close I could not see the edge of her hood. There was traffic in front of me as far as I can see so no one is going anywhere fast. Why can't people just back off unless they are going to pass?

There is an epidemic of stupidity in the US

I fully support more mass transit - so other people will get off my road.

I will second that. These people who become violent behind the wheel have bigger issues to deal with. It is best to try to defuse to situation. I know that it is easier said than done, but offer a hand wave and a head nod to acknowledge a simple error had occurred and all is forgiven. Most of that time that will work.
