What would you get? Pretend you drive 600 miles a week, new car being less than 50k.

I don't even have to think about it. I'd buy a Gen III Prius. I came close to it already, but my Gen II has a lot of good miles left in it.

Pretend? Hell, I already drive 500 miles a week (85k and counting on my '06).

No brainer ... I'd get a Gen III.

No question - Gen III. I did just that last month (although I didn't have to get rid of my Gen II, I really wanted the solar sunroof!):)

I'd love a Gen III but reality kicks in and the money just isn't there for me to do this. Reality says I would get a used Gen II most likely from government auction.

If it was a case of have to, as in the current Prius was written off, I could rely on my Crown and bike to get around while waiting for the right Prius to be available.

A friend of mine is thinking of making the leap from an '02 Mercedes S500, was thinking of a Lexus Hybrid, possibly a Prius. I explained to him that the Lexus Hybrids don't get the mileage a Prius does, and the 250 in particular is said to be a turd for the money. He knows very little about hybrids, he even threw in a Hybrid Tahoe .

He asked me how well I like mine and would I get another one if mine got totaled. For me, I'd buy a new Corvette and go back to commuting on my motorcycle....or maybe I'd get a Gen III- haven't been in one or driven one yet, I'm sure they're way nicer, which is why I'm gong to stay away!

I'd miss my dalmatian Prius :(

I'd walk and/or ride public transit until the Plug In Prius (PIP) is available :thumb:

I'd probably pick up a used 08 Subaru WRX STi (hatchback body) and throw on some coilovers.

    I'd get another Prius, probably a 2010.

But 600 miles a week? That's crazy. I'd either move closer to work, or get a job closer to home.

Under the given premise (600 miles a week), I'd take a Gen III.

However, under real-life conditions (about 600 miles a month), I think I'd take a Gen III.

600 miles/week... that means your commute is 60 miles each way - taking into account rush hour traffic, that's probably 1.5-2 hours each way.

So I would probably get a big, old van, bolt in a massage table in the back, and hire a driver and masseuse every day. Or instead of the masseuse, maybe stick in a TV, X-box, and a satellite internet connection. Anyways, you get the idea - if my commute is that long, i'll find some way to avoid having to actually drive it.

Well, seeing as my wife and i both have a Gen II...We'd get a Gen III.

Wait...is the Volt ready? No? Yes, I'd get a Gen III.

We talked my redneck dad out of an HHR and into a Gen III, and it is nice. The EV button is great, the handling is much improved, and it looks less cheap both inside and out. We like it so much, we're contemplating upgrading the older '05 to a Gen III. However, I need to decide if I want to stay at the job I'm first to know if we can afford it.

Ok, I drive 575 miles a week, that is close enough. (Every where I work is 55 miles away, just not the same 55 Miles Besides, living here my wife is 1.3 miles from work, so one of us would commute anyway) Prius Gen III or used Gen II

I already traded my 05 for my 10 and love it. I can no longer imagine not driving a Prius.

If I could not move closer to work or work closer to home I would fold those seats down, utilize the power outlets, add cushioning to the back. Sleep and WiFi in it a couple nights a week to avoid so much traveling.

Compared to an HHR, ANYTHING is nice. I was made to drive one once.

I would be shopping the Gen III against the Fusion Hybrid. I couldn't tell you which one would wind up in the driveway unless I actually went out to kick tires. But I have put enough work into getting my Gen II right that I don't care to replace it for a very long time! Especially when I'm so close to being free from car payments.

What would I get? Ideally a 2010 Mustang GT500 Shelby. Pure sweetness!

But 600 miles a week? 2010 Prius, no question about it. I barely drive 600 miles in a month (I work from my basement so my commute time is 15 seconds).

I'd buy another Gen II Prius. I want a cheap $5000 basic bare bones Prius that I can modify and convert without having to worry about warranties etc. So in the end I'd spend ~$15000 for my additional Prius.

    $1000 - plug in kit
    $2000 - new rims
    $2000 - body kit
    $200 - tinted windows
$1000 - HID headlights with LEDs
    $500 - fogs

and I'm just getting started. Basically, I'm too scared to do all of this on my new prius so I want an old one to mess around with.

Update. My dad was closing the hatch on his brand new Gen III and the small window under the fin SHATTERED. Flat out just blew up into thousand's of pieces. WIERD. I'm assuming Toyota's gonna replace it for free.

I point it out as this is the first black mark I've ever been able to make against the Prius in 4 years of driving one. For now I'll chalk it up as just a defective piece of glass.

Sorry to hear that Darwood!!.....My choice for a replacement for "Eleanor" would be.............another Eleanor!!! I'd buy a Gen III Blizzard Pearl with solar panels. She's be Eleanor II. The car that gives me the warm fuzzies right now is the new banana yellow Camaro.............but in the end I am still a Mustang girl. Had 3 of them....
