Prius Inverter Problem I have a 2007 Prius with 27000 miles on the clock that has been in service for 40 months. Recently the battery started to die on me and a quick boost would get the car going. The last time it died however I could not get it started with cables and had it towed to a Toyota dealer. The dealer has now advised me that serious damage has been done to the Inverter and electrical system and $4700. will be required in repairs. He blames "boosting the battery backwards" as the cause of the damage. I have boosted batteries for over 5o years and very much doubt that I connected them up backwards. Dear readers... are there any other logical reasons why the inverter and electrical system would fail? I did talk to another Toyota Dealer and his comment was that only high mileage Taxis had inverter problems in his shop.
