Trying to find good all weather mats

I am trying to find all weather floor mats and cargo mat that will fit well in my 2005 Prius. I am trying to find something that wont leave much unprotected space around the side of the mat. I would like the mat to have some deep grooves that will hold water and mud because it rains a lot where I live. Also something that matches the tan interior, although this is not as important as the fit.

I have done a lot of searches around the prius forums and local stores and have found the following mats but none of them seem to fit my needs.

WeatherTech's Classic Premium Rubber Mats - These seemed like the best because they have deep grooves and I thought they were custom fit, then I read some posts that they do not fit well on the prius and since they don't provide example pictures on their website of a prius it is hard to tell how much space is left unprotected.

Toyota All Weather Mats - I found these and they looked good because they are fit to the prius. I noticed my boss has the toyota mats on his carolla and I saw that the grooves are not very deep so I suspect they wont hold much water/mud. Here is a picture I found of the toyota mats http://www.priuschat.com/forums/download.php?id=1617. Also I don't think they are offered in tan.

RubberTite - One post mentioned these are custom fit to the prius but the grooves look less useful than the toyota mats.

Some posters mentioned cheap truck mats from walmart, costco, etc. One mentioned they were Kraco brand, I found those at checker auto parts and also found them under different brand names at walmart and kmart. They look exactly like the mat in this picture http://www.priuschat.com/forums/album_pic.....php?pic_id=174, they have really good grooves. But they leave a lot of unprotected space near what seems like the most important area and you can't push them farther over towards the door because they are not shaped correctly at the top.

ExactMats - I have seen these for both the floor and cargo areas but I don't know anything about them, does anyone know if they fit well? They don't have grooves at all but I'm thinking I can combine them with some mats with deep grooves over these exactmats.

WeatherTech Cargo Liner - This looks good and it seems like they are claiming it fits well but I found a post that said it does not fit properly. Anyone tried this?

I've gotten very frustrated trying to figure this all out. I live in an area where the stores don't have much selection and my prius refuses to drive over the ocean to somewhere with a better selection of products. So far from my searches online I find that most sites just use a generic photo or obfuscated views so I can't tell what I am actually getting.

Can people with all weather mats give me ideas on what you chose? Especially people in areas where they get a lot of water and mud dragged into the car. Also any opinions on what looks good against the tan interior, I notice some of the mats that are tan are a very dark tan.

I'm thinking about using a combo of 2 mats or forgetting about the grooves and getting the toyota mats.

I'm pretty clueless on what cargo mat/liner I should get, any suggestions on that would be great.

    Sorry for the long post.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

I picked up some rubber all-weather mats at Costco when I first got my Prius - they work great and were only around $20-25 I think. I had a peek under them when I washed my car the last time and the fabric was still pristine.

I bought the WeatherTech mat for the cargo area of my '05 and it fits perfectly. It's a little expensive but there's nothing better out there than this one. I can't imagine how it would be much better.

To clarify, I bought the WeatherTech Cargo Liner, not just the mat. Sorry, I should have said that in the previous post.

I got some Eddy Bauer WaterHog mats. They come in charcoal and brown. The brown looks pretty good in my car.

I like my Toyota mats a lot. The driver one stays nicely once the clips are used. If it's not 100% coverage, it's 99.9%...

    Ditto what Mike said.

I used them this past winter and they kept all of the crud off of the rug.

I was also concerned since they don't have the deep grooves like the mats in my last car. But, they still work fine. Because of the octagon ridges, the dirt doesn't move around or off of the mat.

They're also much more comfortable when driving barefoot...

    Cheers,

I'm a big fan of the Carbox mats. Fit great, good value. There was recently a thread on them. You can see it [here.]

I'm using Toyota All-Weather mats and they held up well to water (I'm in Vancouver on the wet coast) and the "heavy" snowfall this past winter. Our old cars used to have generic Canadian Tire mats at $30 or so. Once my dad saw the Toyota all-weather mats, he ditched those generics in his Camry and bought a set of Toyota's for the Camry. I thought the black rubber mat matches well since we do have a black dashboard and black door cappings.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I am going to get the Toyota floor mats. It looks like the black will probably look fine with the tan interior but has anyone found a tan version of the Toyota mats?

Now I just need to decided on a cargo liner.

clane47: Do you happen to have a picture with a full view of the cargo area with the WeatherTech cargo liner? I want to get a sense of how it's color, fit, tread, and lip looks. The WeatherTech site only has generic pics. Also does the cargo liner cover the space that sticks out on each side, meaning left side over small hidden compartment and right side over 12v battery?

LOLGuy: Thanks for the info on the carbox cargo liner, I saw a post about them previously but couldn't find them for sale. I see there are some close up pics in the thread you linked to, do you happen to have any pics with a full view of the cargo liner in the cargo area? Also how bendable is the material on the carbox liner? It looks kind of like hard plastic where if you lifted part of the liner then the whole thing would pivot up, is it kind of bendable so if you lift one area then it bends and the rest stays mostly flat?

If anyone else has full view pics of the WeatherTech or Carbox cargo liners I would like to see them.

    Thanks,
    Patrick

I just bought the Toyota Prius floor mats this weekend, and they look nothing like the ones in the pic you posted. The grooves are quite deep, and they're somewhat stylish. I think they're only available in black, but they look fine with the tan interior at least.

The mats are a bit expensive though. The dealer I went to had a 15% off coupon, afterwhich the total came to about $80.

Try matdept.com. They have clear plastic for $51 I believe. I think they look great.

Patrick, the WeatherTech covers the entire cargo area, including the storage and battery areas. I'll try to get a picture for you tomorrow.

    Hmm Blue,

Do your mats look like these? I picked these up from a Canadian dealership.

As for the Carbox cargo mat, here's a couple of pix. AS you can see, the fit is great. To answer your questions Patrick, the liner isn't pliable like soft rubber. It's more plastic than rubber and it's stiff enough that it won't fold over and stay. It'll want to spring back. But, the whole thing won't lift up. It's not that stiff. I can bend the rear of it up to get in the cargo hold below.

    Cheers,

They look much different actually. I'll see if I can take a pic tonight after I get home. Unfortunately toyota.com doesn't have pics posted for the all weather mats.

Oh really? Who knew the US and Canadian versions would be different. Yes, mine looks like bobc's.

Hey all, this is a great thread! So nice to have this all in one place.

How other folks, post pix of your mats and liners to see what's out there and assist folks who are looking to purchase this stuff.

Chuck, congrats on the posting! Yes, the weathertech looks like a great fit. How would you describe the composition of the cargo mat? Is it rubbery? Plasticy? Does it fold over easily?

FWIW, the carbox mat has a little cubby on the passenger side.

Blue, your mats for the rear seats are a much better fit than the Canadian version. It's tough to see in this photo, but the upper left corner is on top of the seat rail hump (That's clearly visible in your photo). The driver's mats vary. Your's fits better in some places, the Canadian one fits better in others.
