I wouldn't paint them myself, I would just love the option to buy them painted with OEM paint.

I finally got around to installing mine this past weekend...the process was a lot easier than I expected and I was able to do the rear ones without removing the wheels using a regular screwdriver. I used an awl instead of a pencil to mark the position of the screws for the rear ones, which made it easier to get them started.

They look great (sorry, no photos yet) and should make a big difference in cutting down on the splatter behind the wheels.

    Hi guys -

I wanted to give you all an update about the mudguard situation. So far I have not been able to reach a reasonable price in order to import them in from the UK, so I have started looking to other sources to have some made for the US market.

For now I would suggest you purchasing them through Pentagon's ebay page.

eBay Seller: pentagonsheffield: 2009 prius, Vehicle Parts Accessories items on eBay.co.uk

Clicking through the links here on PriusChat do help to support the community in a small way, so we appreciate you for doing that!

I'll continue to update this thread as I have more info.

I got mine from pentagon sheffield. If they don't have a combined front and rear auction, ask them and they will put one up.

They did a superb job shipping and they got here fast. A bit pricey, but hell... if you want mudflaps, that's the best place to get them.

The double din surround would be another good item to look for. I would buy one.
Pentagon also sells that and has a combined for that and the flaps.

Ordered mine from sheffield as well. Just installed em' no sweat. It does take a little bit of attention to align them so that they are as flush as possible with the body once completely screwed in though.

verdict: I like 'em. Though, I do think they add a more "sport utility" look to the car, rather than the classiness of the clean lines and big shiny panels of the car....kinda wish they weren't cheap plastic and were OEM colors. They seem like they'll function nicely though, so theres that too.

For what it's worth, I asked my salesman about mud flaps and he said Toyota won't offer them because of the slight decrease in MPG that they would cause. Might or might not be the answer.

rrolff, i always enjoy your posts....and I've come to some early conclusions about them:

    1. your sense of humor is deeply complex, and enjoy carrying a joke so incredibly far that you revel in them going from odd to funny to is-he-kidding to complete mayhem/confusion concerning some of your facts and testing...in which case, you're one of my favorite posters here....

    2. you actually have wind tunnels at JPL at your disposal and managed to rig an eye bolt to a roof of a prius enough to suspend it. your tests are on the level and legit, which, frankly, makes you my hero.

You are too kind. On a side note, I have installed the pulley system in my garage - now I can just hitch up to the eye bolt, and lift up.

Makes tire rotations simple - you do have to tie up the front to the front of the garage to prevent the thing from spinning around in the garage due to the earth's rotational force.

Great! Keep track of your FE over a tank and report any changes.

I will add my thanks to your efforts as well. Hopefully it will bring some response. My 07 had them stock. Seemed like a good idea then, why not now?

My MPG has gone up 5-10% since I installed the mud guards (800 miles ago). Seriously.

The only thing that seems to be killing my gas mileage now is this crappy winter gas with 10% ethanol!

Agreed. Can't tell if the mudflaps are really decreasing the mileage. Looks good though and keeps stuff off the car so worth a little mileage loss.

drove from LA to barstow yesterday, and along the way, we ran into a patch of pretty heavy rain and afterwards, desert area. the desert dust kind of "painted" where the water had been flowing over the car...the mudflaps work. but only for the small area that they cover. above that, the waterspray flowed up pretty high. i suppose one would have to weigh this against his/her own needs, but Id be just as happy without them, unfortunately (seems like they'd be great in snow). I'll leave em on until i can afford a TRD kit. It'll likely protect the same amount of area and look better.

Gen II flaps are cheaper, not the other way around. The ones I bought were $28.64 for the set of 4. Total including shipping was $37.78. :)
