We just bought our first Prius. A Blizzard Pearl White on tan Package II. I have been waiting for this color in this package for about a month and it finally got here.

I'll add some pictures once is stops raining here in Boise. We really love the car and 53mpg so far is is roughly 4 times better mileage than the Land Rover it replaced. We couldn't be happier. :D

Hi. Congrats on the new car!! I've been researching for a while but in the Orlando area where I live dealers are selling for MSRP at best. Did the dealer work with you with price? Should I hold out until I find a dealer that will?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and good luck.

Thanks guys it is certainly a lot different than the Rover it replaced but we are enjoying it a lot. Currently we are at 53.2 mpg based on the computer in ECO mode only. Not stellar but better than 14.2 in the Rover.

rlr66: We were able to get $200 off MSRP because I called nearly 10 dealers within about 200 miles of me and two competitors were offering this for a new Prius and my dealer matched it. I also got the exact dollar amount I wanted for my trade-in. I think everything just fell into place for us.

Try making some phone calls and see what you can get.

I just read someone saying mileage goes down when the weather gets cooler. Can someone confirm that this is true and explain why?

    Thanks.

We drove our 1 day old 2010 today on a 100 mile round trip. In the am the temp was under 30--52 mpg. On the same roads home it was in the 60's and we got 50 mpg. Basically a wash to me. Mainly rural highway and city/mall.

    Welcome howam00!

As far as mileage going down... check out the fuel economy threads for a good discussion. There are many factors:
    1. Conditions - rain and wind... both will chop your FE.
    2. Cold - Engine has to run more to heat your cab.
    3. Tires - If you use snow tires and or studs, your going to increase your rolling resistance with will effect your FE. Weight increase due to the tires and possibly different rims.
    4. Car dirty - Usually a person doesn't keep the car as clean in the winter which will increase wind resistance.

Probably many more but that will get you started.

In those threads you'll also discover that all cars lose FE in the cold. It's just more noticable when you lose 10% of a 50 mpg car than 10% of a 15 mpg car. The Prius does have other issues to deal with in cold weather making it run a little more often in the cold, where as an ICE only car is running all the time, so the Prius losses may be a little higher percentage wise.

I've lost about 3 mpg so far compared to summer

All cars get worse mileage in the winter.

In addition to what spiderman said:

    - winter fuel blend (less fuel, more additives so that fuel won't freeze)
    - Temperature (not just for cabin heat but your engine is starting at a colder temperature so it'll take longer to heat up)
    - To expand on the dirty car, keep in mind that you carry a lot of slush and crud inside the wheel well too. Water is heavy
    - Extra equipment (probably not a huge factor but you carry more emergency equipment like snow shovel, ice scraper, snow brush, tool kit, emergency blanket etc)
    - snow/ice. All that tire spinning when you're stuck wastes fuel

I bought a Package 111 in northern NJ, the dealer would not budge even a dollar. I say go for it. I love my car, my first Prius.:)

At over 22 years here, I haven't had the pleasure of meeting their acquaintance. Great weather and great car deals.
