We just had the same thing happen to our 08 Prius. Some 16 year old girl ran a red light and hit our passenger side. The estimate from the shop was $13,000. The insurance company decided to total the car.

I am not looking forward to shopping for another Prius.

sorry to hear...hoepfully everyone is ok.

there are plenty of used Prius around now that the '10s are out....you may even be able to find a deal on a used '10 -- I almost bought one..pkg II for $20600 with about 5k miles on it.

personally if I had ANY soreness or bumps or cruises, I'd look to get some $$$ from their insurance co...you could've died or been permanently injured -- there's no excuse for running a stop sign!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zigburn: I feel for you...part of me is hoping they find something that is structurally unsound and total it (that whole "trust the rebuilt car" thing) and part of me wants MY car back 'cause I know how it's been taken care of...

bagwell: Their agent has already indicated that I'll be getting something in this area; she is waiting until 10 days after the incident to get an update from me. I'm still sore on the left side of my ribcage and left shoulder, esp. when stretching for something...

As a pseudo deja vu thing, wife and I were driving towards the same intersection last night, saw a car coming to the stop sign, they slow down then roll through it. My wife was driving (my foot is trying to go through the floorboards to stop the car) and laid on the horn, driver slows down and flips us off! Good thing I wasn't driving esp. by myself or I'd have followed the pr!ck...

Sorry to see the result of that accident. I dont have pictures but I drove out of our garage with the hatch up ! and yes hit the top of the door, damaging the spoiler!!!! so hubby will not be treating me with any other gifts this holiday season. Yes, I know, pay attention.

Since it's in your neighborhood you may consider calling the local police and ask for increased traffic violation monitoring of that intersection. Good luck! :)

Greetings all! Time for an update:

We got the Prius back from the shop on the 28th. Overall grade on the work (so far): B+ There are a few issues that we have found since getting it back. To their credit, the shop owner said that on big jobs like this he anticipates some additional work.

    - There is a light rubbing/grinding noise from the front driver's wheel when turning right. It could be something like a brake dust shield rubbing (if there is one)

    - The driver door/sideview mirror isn't aligned exactly correct. When looking from the front of the car, the passenger side sits flush/a little recessed whereas the driver's side sticks out a little where the mirror attaches to the door.

    - The gap between the driver's door and the dash is noticeably wider than the one between the passenger door and dash

    - The fuse panel in the engine bay looks to be bent downward some; it is very hard to remove/replace the cover.

Driving and handling though seem to be fully restored. Wish me luck!
