just in NA as far as I've been able to determine. Not in Europe and the east: Australia, New Zealand, or Asia. It was and still is to reduce evaporative emissions from the car when it's being refilled so to get the car into the SLUEV/PZEV rating from the EPA and Environment Canada (our pseudo EPA)

non in Canada as far as I'm aware. Every vehicle should have the bladder. It'd save millions of tons of hydrocarbons venting into the atmosphere every year when people refill their vehicles.

Hey Ratfish and Galaxee., I always add about 1/2 gal more then at the automatic shut off. Typically the venting release of gas is controlled such that the shut off is activated. Most units after use (the gas staion unit) wear and wind up cutting off fuel filling 1 1/2 tp 2 gallons short. It all depends how you monitor your car, and how far you want to go on a tank full. In design and techincal terms if you overfilled 100%., you could conceivable fill the vent system and overfill, and this could cause codes to come up, this is true of any modern car nowadays. But on the other end you get short changed on the fill up, and cannot go as far. I usually add a little after the automatic cut off, have yet to see lights both in this car and the previous ones I owned before. In terms of environmental stewartship, you can defeat features designed into the car to protect the environment from gas fumes and residuals, by overfilling any car today, especially if you pump until the gas comes out of the tank! Suggest you do not do that. You should be able to add 1/2 to 1 gallon past the first cut off, and pump it in slow, if another cut off occurs stop there. Then to accurately measure mileage, you must fill your tank the same way next times. If you choose to just stop at the first cut off, do so for the rest of them. If you decide to add a little more add the same amount each time. Note also that the tank bladder will behave differently in WINTER., you will have less capacity, this is clearly noted in forums here and in the owner's manuals. The fact you are dealing with a bladder and not an aluminum tank dictates a little more caution here, then a good old gas guzzling car. If you severely overfill the bladder each time, you are streching it, and if a temperature change occurs, you could have a situation where expansion could damage the system or the bladder, especially in cold climates where outside and in garage temp diff may be large. I would venture to say most in these forums here err on the side of caution, and would tell you to just fill to the first click, use the slowesr fill rate or first lock set on the pump handle, if you are not "blasting" that gas in there the cutoff will be later and you get more gas in the bladder.
