My fiance just got her new Blue IV last night.

She traded in her '08, that had headlights that turned off as you locked your doors. She told me that her new Prius' lights will not turn off on their own.

Please do not tell me that Toyota has overlooked this bit of technology.

I think only the package V has them. You can do what a lot of us do, though. Just keep them on at all times. The car will turn them off in thirty seconds or when you tap the lock button twice on the remote. You can also have the dealer set them to turn off when you open the door, if you prefer.

Your vehicle should have the AUTO OFF headlight system. I don't think it's only limited to the Model V.

If you have the parking lights on and turn the car off, the lights will turn off immediately upon opening the drivers door.

If you have the headlights ON, and turn the car off, and open the drivers door, the headlights are set to turn off after "30 Seconds".

This is one of those settings that the dealer can change to 60 seconds, or 0 seconds. I prefer the 30 seconds factory setting. It works well for me.

Should you want to turn them off sooner, you can hit the lock button on the fob, and the lights will turn off upon hitting that button.

    Hope that helps...;)

My III turns the headlights off automatically 30 seconds after locking the doors (or possibly after opening the driver's door...I never tested it).

I think a 15-30 second delay in turning off is pretty much an "industry standard". I think most drivers, and especially woman, like having the light left on as they exit and lock the car. I know my wife likes having the headlights on long enough for her to enter the house. Consideer it a safety feature.
