Does anyone know what the 2005 NY state tax incentive is for buying a hybrid? Does it have to be purchased in-state, or just registered/operated? I know the 2004 NYS incentive was a $2000 tax credit (Federal was $2000 tax deduction).

    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the link.

That thread pretty much covers Prius purchase up until Dec. 31, 2004. However, I'm planning on purchasing this summer. I guess I'll have to call NYSERDA and figure out if there's a tax credit this year. Nothing can be found on their website with regards to 2005 tax incentives.

I am also waiting for word on the NYS credit. For the last two years (at least) this credit has been extended in October. I am hoping this will be the case, but with all the Prius being purchased it may be to expensive for the State to extend this year . I will let all know if and when credit is passed.

Wait until October? :cussing: Oh well.... I will have to send out those emails to my state senator and assemblyperson. Extend the tax credit, help a poor grad student!

Did a little research and found a current bill in the NYS Senate about the tax credit. It actually looks like its just a renewal of the old bill, but the tax credit has been proposed to increase to $4000 (unless I am completely misunderstanding.... which is possible due to the silly legislative language). The bill is here http://assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?bn=A04021 if you'd like to decode it. In any case, it probably won't be acted on for a while.
