Anyone who has looked at the tech manuals, take a look please.

    I would like to know if there is anything about the factory JBL amp in the tech guide before spending the money on the admission. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to defeat the equalization through a menu or on the amp itself. They did some really strange things with tuning this amp for our cars and it is making it extremely difficult to install an aftermarket amp and speakers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just don't want to waste the money or time if there is nothing on this subject to access it. Thank you for your time.

    Tech guides are more oriented for technicians to do diagnostics and part swaps. They only go down to the individual part number, which in the case of the JBL amp, is the whole unit. Unless you find a way to intercept the input (2 channel - AVC LAN specifies balance/fader), you're probably not going to get very far w/ your project. Even volume is handled by the amp though, and power off is simply amp mute (as noted by a very faint hiss from the speakers).

    In my 08, I had to cut speaker wires at the amp and send speaker output to an AudioControl LC8 to get a clean line level out signal, and then use an aftermarket amp.

    TIS doesn't contain this level of info on the head unit or amplifier.

    You probably know that equalization is applied at the preamp stage - so going out the speakers won't help, nor will tapping into the preamp output (where it would go to the external amp) if it has one.

    In addition, since equalization in head units is digitally controlled one way or another (through DSP or digital potentiometers), you can't simply "bypass" the EQ somehow from inside the unit.

    I think your only option may be to put an aftermarket EQ (they are out there, take a look at Crutchfield.com) in the path between the head unit and the aftermarket amp, and correct it that way. Most can be connected to the speaker outputs OR preamp outputs.

    Yeah, Exactly what Jayvee said.
    Also, if you want flat, just dial up the EQ settings on the MFD menu and set all to 0. Without a Spectrum Analyser view of the outputs, that's a good setting to assume that you have a "Flat" out of the pre-amp.
