Welcome to PriusChat. Keep in mind this is the WORLD Wide Web.

When asking questions that are location related, it really helps us answer when we know where you are.

Like: My heater sucks. How's the rear defroster? My MPG sucks in winter. (We need to know where you live in order to get a feel for the severity of your winter).

Or, does my car have daytime running lights? (Do you live in Canada? Then yes).

So, make it easy on us, put some sort of location description, ANYTHING, in the "Location" field of your Profile. City and State (or country) is best, you can just be generic and put "New England" or "Midwestern US" or "Finland" if you are worried about stalkers or something. (But be accurate! It matters for so many responses).

If you still don't want to do this, then at LEAST tell us your general whereabouts inside your post.

    (End Rant).

    Nate

Or even more local: Anyone know of a dealership with a good Prius Tech?

Answer: sure, I know of one in Salt Lake City. Won't do you much good if you live in Florida though.

Sorry Rick, didn't mean to exclude you, but I didn't remember your location.

Location really helps, in every online forum. Be cool if was a way to be mandatory to fill something in when you register.

My avatar lists my location; don't most avatars list the poster's location?

Your avitar is a fish. No mention of location there! If anything, I would have guessed Florida.

Now if your profile is configured with your location, it will show BELOW your avitar, as does your age and gender.

As a newby, the only thing you missed was a way to complain or contact Toyota. Seems to be a one way street.

Please Post Your Location and Model Prius

This was a Great suggestion that just died.

Screw the privacy issues. Even a broad location like "South Florida" narrows me down to Earth/USA/Florida/No Snow/Lots of Rain/AC on all the time/and other helpful information to members.

DANNY - are you listening! The newbies seem to be the worst offenders because they just don't get it at first, but there are some die-hard members without locations listed too that reduce the effectiveness of our site.

While I'm ranting - lets make "Your Prius Year/Option Package" required too. I'll bet half the responses on our site would be eliminated if we didn't have to keep asking what everyone was driving and roughly where they live.

    That's it.

I totally agree on its usefulness, but I've also wondered how much of the problem in not posting location is privacy issues---as opposed, say, to simple speed and convenience when members register.

My own guess is that many/most members are also signed up on many other internet sites, and just routinely skip over providing any and all non-essential information, for no particularly good reason.

Most Prius newbies would probably never suspect that their location/climate could be an important factor in helping other members to provide assistance when posting a future question.

Bottom line: I don't think a pinned post gets it. However, if it would be possible (and I don't see why it wouldn't) to put a brief disclaimer/explanation about the importance of stating location, say, just above those boxes when folks first register, there'd be much better response.

The next best thing I can think of would be a recurring (say, twice a year) "thread" (message) from Danny, reminding/asking recently-joined members to add location to their profile.

I am in Cumberland, Md. My first tank traveling says it's averaging 41.5 for the 131 miles traveled. I'm assuming this gets better as u break in the car?! I love it!
