Other than the windshield, you could pop it in the cupholder:

Or if you must have it higher, on top of the dash with this:

You could even mount an iPhone or iPod with GPS[IMG]

    or this:

What do you think is better?
I know some people like them to be up at windshield level, but I think it's more stable in the cup holder. I don't look at the screen much after setting the destination and rely mostly on the voice guidance. Glancing at the screen is to check distance to the next turn etc, is little different than glancing at the climate control screen especially with the GPS raised several inches on a gooseneck mount like the first 2 pics.

Try a panic braking to see if any one of those is actually "secured"?
I doubt it. Windshield mounting is still best in this sense.

Brodit.com offers 3-4 variants of holders fro 2010. I think the best mounting point is a second A pillar. The product code is 804356 ProClip. See below:

You can attach any suitable holder to this mounting base.

Brodit is my choice every time. I have them in every vehicle I have owned.

I use a centre mount Pro-Clip in my 04 and it's great, I use a doubling plate and mount my GPS and phone cradle on the one mounting bracket.

That is so far away from the power outlet that the power cables would be annoying streaming across my knees. I also don't want any permanent mounting hardware or suction cup marks remaining that advertises that a GPS is used in the car even after you remove the gps.

What I like about the cup holder mount with goose-neck arm is that it's close to the power port under the center armrest and it should be one quick 2-second motion to set it up (assuming it all fits in the armrest storage without any dissassembly) and then just as quick to hide it again with no need to keep unplugging and replugging the GPS from the power adapter each time.
The cup holder mount with goose neck would also in easy reach for me to use with my right hand.

I don't like the suction cup because it's mounting too far from my sight.
I use the Soundgate M2 Mobile Mount. It's made in Germany and very slim in design. I am using one on my Camry and plan to buy another one to put it in the Prius. It bought it at CAD40 but may be cheaper in the US.

That looks nice except you would have hardware attached to your dash that will attract break ins from people who will rifle through the car to see if you are hiding a portable gps or even an iPod somewhere in the car.
    This exactly why I won't get a Proclip-type device.
This is even worse than the Brodit and Proclip because it may also cause permanent damage to your dashboard when you are ready to remove it.

Every time I see one of those fancy permanent mounting solutions, I say to myself "Must not be from crime-ridden US" and sure enough... they are not.

People in US need mounts that can be hidden away from smash-and-grab thieves.

The way it works is the M2 kit comes with glue-on small disc the size of a penny and about 1mm thick. This goes on the back of the GPS unit. The device can be easily slide out of the mount. The mount can also be folded flat when not in use. Yes, the unfortunate thing is the mount has to be glued on the surface. Can it be removed? I don't know but I doubt that I will. I'm also posting some pictures here. Image may be a little blurry but it shows you how it works.

I bought a mount that could work for my iphone and gps... It either sits on the windshield.. or connects on the ac vent (which is my fav.)

I put together a little foam pedestal with top and bottom Velcro on top of my steering wheel column at a level that makes it clearly visible through the steering wheel. (see pic)

I like mine on the dash, but I like that gray mount better than the one I have. Where did you find it?

I have a beanbag mount sitting on the dash. The amount of force needed to make it move a bit is enough to total the car. The suction cup is more likely to lose its grip.
