Here's the info on the SAS Bazooka BTA6100-Circuit City subwoofer installation project. The original thread was an inadvertent victim of the February PriusChat hosting glitch.

Project Prius: Breaking The Sound Barrier

"Armed with a Bazooka BTA6100 amplified subwoofer, we fix one of the biggest weaknesses of the new Toyota Prius...

The Bottom Line...Music is now more enjoyable in the Prius. There is a sense of realism to the music that transforms what was once ordinary to sound that is now extraordinary. The scale of sounds coming out of the system is larger, more life-like. Playing "Pops Hoedown" off of the Telarc Round-Up CD with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra yields a palpable "you are there" quality. The same quality is heard and felt when playing "Take Five" off of the Columbia SBM Master Sound CD of the Dave Brubeck Quartet's Time Out. Play No Doubt's "Hella Good" (The Singles 1992-2003, Interscope Records), and all hell breaks loose as the Prius-Bazooka system belts out some clean, powerful rock n' roll.

We find no adverse affects to the addition of the subwoofer - no detectable impact on battery drain, battery charging, or fuel economy. We do find ourselves looking forward to hearing the audio system in the Prius - something we never did before. Trying out various CDs, we are continually amazed now much better things sound - now that the Prius is armed with a Bazooka." - LA Car

To answer questions posted on the original thread:
    • Circuit City says one mod is needed to the harness (see article for the details). "Otherwise, it works fine with the Prius."

LA Audio File on the Bazooka-Prius combo

FYI - LA Audio File has just published a variation of the same review (Bazooka BTA6100 amplified subwoofer fitted in the Toyota Prius).

Go to http://www.laaudiofile.com/ and then scroll down to the Bazooka BTA6100 review.

"In order to avoid having to splice too many wires, Circuit City used Bazooka's optional 1761 interface harness, which fits certain model Toyotas. In the Prius, Lopez switched the remote wire that turns on the amplifier over to the accessory lead. "Otherwise, the harness works fine," says Lopez."

Has anyone managed to get this working with the crossover network on the input side of the amp in the premium JBL system? Even better, using plug and play harnesses?

Check out the 2004-2005 Prius thread on the Bazooka forum. SAS said they were working on a plug-and-play harness for the JBL system. It should be ready by now.

    Okay, guys and gals...

    THEY"RE HERE!

That's right. We now have either the JBL Interface cable or the Standard Toyota Interface cable depending upon which radio your Prius is equipped with. In either case, you'll also need one BAD extension cable to complete the installation of the BAT8100 Amplified Bass Tube.

It allows you to simply plug the unit in, no splicing, no cutting. Only one other wire is needed, that's the ground wire, but that's not a big deal.

Currently, the inventory just hit here in Baton Rouge, so our dealers probably don't have them in stock just yet. You can either request your dealer to order one for you, or you can call us at 1-800-THE-TUBE to order one.

    Thanks!

    NTRCPTR,

    Excellent news! Two questions:

    1) Does this harness put the BAT8100's internal crossover before the JBL amp? In other words, will the stock system still receive the frequencies that are covered by the sub? Is the same true for the BAT8200 (w/ adjustable frequency crossover)?

    2) Is power taken from the amp's supply line? Is this power source stiff enough for a larger amp, such as the BAT8200?

    Thanks,
    Chris
