    Hello Everyone,

We are thinking of buying a Prius 2005 soon. We are currently living in CT but will be moving to NJ next month.

What are the current wait periods in these states?
Is it advisable to drive to another state in case the cars are readily available there?

    Thanks for your answers,

    Sincerely,

    Prius_Possible

    Possible,

The wait period really depends on what you are after. In many cases, I have found that dealers do have some (limited) stock. I am certainly willing to purchase the vehicle out of state if I can get a better deal on what I want. Why should you be tied to a specific region? I have a relation in CT looking into availability and pricing in the Danbury and Bridgeport areas. Will post more when I hear back from him.

4 hour wait for '05 Prius #6 in Northern NJ.

Yes, that is correct. I walked into the showroom at Prestige Toyota on Route 17 in Ramsey, actually to just "look". I'd been quoted a "two month wait" at Toyota in Hackensack.

They were really nice at Prestige, I actually got a Prius test drive. I was then told that they had a new Black #6 available immediately. They sold it at MSRP and I drove it home 4 hours later. This may be the exception instead of the rule, but hey, it can't hurt to try.

My salesperson was Miguel Baena and he was very Prius-informed.

I wonder where you are in NJ. I am in Central NJ, about a half hour from Philly. The NJ dealers I went to gave me a range of anywhere from 1-7 months. I had a deposit down with a Toyota dealer in Burlington, NJ expecting a 2-4 month wait. While waiting, I discovered Faulkner Toyota in Trevose, PA (just next to Philly). They had 8 Prius' in stock. I called on a Friday, got my deposit back from NJ, and drove home with my Tideland Pearl (Package 4, which you CANNOT get in NJ) on Monday. A GREAT dealership to work with (ask for Patty Kleber). You can find their website via Google...they'll show you their current stock. That's my recommendation...

Around the Philly area, many dealers have 1-2 in stock and are getting 5-12 a month, so they should be able to get you one in a month if you are a bit flexible. Just call with your package and color and ask to be notified if one is coming in.

There is no need to take anything other than what you desire on package level and colour with a Prius now because some dealership within 300 miles of a prospective owner has the desired vehicle now, or can order it.

I ordered exactly what I wanted in October of 2004 from a dealer who promised 90 days delivery on exact colour and package. They did so, but were 610 miles away. I paid MSRP, too.

Someone will get exactly what you want, so go for it.
