Has anyone else encountered resistance when trying to collect the incentives from the purchase of their Prius on their 2004 state taxes?

The cash-strapped State of Kansas just now bothered to tell me that my long-awaited 2004 tax refund will be $750 less than I thought it should be. No explanation - just a data sheet that indicated the Kansas alternative-fuel vehicle deduction had been removed. :cussing: I'm in the process of contacting the state office and requesting an in-person conference to discuss the matter.

If I can't get my $750 in refund cash, at least I'll feel better knowing I took up $750 of their time.

Anyone else had trouble with their state government seeming not-so-environmentally-friendly?

Your state previously offered a $750 REFUND/credit for buying a Prius?!?

Holy S%$t! That's serious bank. Either way, I assume you purchased your Prius regardless of any state incentive offered or not offered for *alternative fuel*(?) cars?

    Consider it still a win-win! ;)

The $750 is actually the result of a really strangely-worded tax form; in Kansas, it is known as the K-62:

The tax incentives were obviously among the reasons I bought the car (I would consider $750 a motivating factor, wouldn't you?), although I would probably have purchased the car, regardless. The federal return paid out about the same amount, and I had that within a month of filing!

But yes, I know, there really is no "losing" when you buy a Prius. :)

I wish Wisconsin would do something for Prius owners... :(

I suppose I'll just be happy I have my Pri in the first place and pay the income taxes I would have paid anyway...

I'd personally love to have my local excise tax deducted for owning a Hy. Or maybe my state of Mass, halve the excise fig taxed us??

Or maybe again, my state is banking on me being a guzzler for their benefit? ;(

    Sad...truuuuleeee sad~

Yeah, it appears that WV offers a tax credit, spread out over 3 years, of the difference between the cost of the hybrid / alt fuel car and an equivalent "normal" car, up to $3,750 (for cars that are 10k lbs. or less). Looks like it expires in June of 2007, so I don't know if I'll get to take the credit for all 3 years or not. But even if I only get $2500 of it, I'm going to be a very happy person!

Some states (NY I think) offered a sales tax refund or partial refund.
Then others had income tax credits or deductions.
    Federal offered $2000 deduction.
If you don't have, or don't claim a state income tax deduction, then you could take a sales tax deduction on your federal.
So, I got a $2000+Sales tax deduction on the Prius. Also took a sales tax deduction on the hardware for my new AC unit.
