Thanks Daniel. I haven't seen a whole lot of you (or darelldd) lately, it was nice to get this update. I also think the Prius is a bridge, and it looks like 2012 will be the year of having real options with the electric car models. I looked at the Xebra and while intriguing, it takes a person who's willing to stand out from the crowd to drive that (as well as some ability to tinker with electric systems, apparently). I think my next vehicle will be a velomobile, with even less impact than an electric vehicle, if I can convince my wife it's a good idea.

I too was single for quite awhile, and there's some pros and cons to that. I could have my own hobbies and spend my time as I wanted. That's when I did all my research on genealogy for instance, and practiced juggling, and became certified in scuba diving. But it's always nice to have a companion, and I wouldn't trade my son for anything.

So here's my one last suggestion: a Tesla is much, much more of a chick magnet than a Xebra Zap. Something about social acceptability and perhaps the display of wealth I guess. Just don't tell the girls that. Half the effort of attracting and keeping someone is knowing what not to say.

I'll miss you as well Daniel, thank you for your many useful contributions over the years. I wish you only good times in the future, and come back and visit when you get the chance.

Daniel, regarding some of your posts, I took issue on more than one occasion & still do. Still, you will be missed, and it's a bit disappointing you'll be away. I'd hoped to see you in Detroit, and was similarly disappointed when the scheduling was too stressful for you to make it. But who knows ... we may still get to meet up some day.
    Take care.

    Daniel,
Thankyou for your post. I knew of your feelings about PC, and your reasons for not wanting to post here at the moment. I became aware of PC through my Brother in Law Pat, as you know. Even though I have never owned a Prius, I became interested in the thoughts, humour, sadness, illnesses, and love of many people on PC. It is amazing how we can become a part of each others lives even though we do not know each other. We sit at our computers and we are a part of a world wide community instantly. I hope that we can keep in touch, and as I have said to you in a PM, if you ever come to Adelaide during one of your many trips, Pat & I would love to see you and show you around our lovely part of the world.

    Hey Daniel,
You're more than welcome to check in any time, come and go as you please, but don't go deleting your account or anything like that...perhaps PC will morph into EV chat.

BTW, hope to see you around on the EV sites. I'm still mostly just at TeslaMotorsClub.com, but may well expand the areas I hang out at once I get my Model S.

Goodbye for now, Daniel - I'll miss your contributions! I DO hope that you'll stop in every once in a while, even if it's only here in FHOP.

I've been a member since 2006 and at first I posted a lot, but as the years have gone by, there are at least 10 other people who can give the same info I can, and as the technology has changed, I'm able to contribute less, so I can understand what you're saying. At this point, I mostly read Fred's, keep an eye on the Cartoon of the Day in FHOP of politics, lurk, and rarely comment - I expect I'll continue doing that for a while.

Your absence will be felt by many of us - we've enjoyed your wit, your intelligence, your points of view and your general knowledge on so many, many subjects. You've often piqued my curiosity so that I look for further information on a subject, keeping me 'thinking and learning' instead of just being an information sponge, mostly going through life saying 'Ho, Hum'.

You've made a difference in my life, and I thank you.

I certainly understand why you're curtailing your participation on the forum. I've done the same myself for pretty much the same reasons. Even the political stuff has gotten boring.

I'll miss your posts, though. You pretty much always posted something that was well thought out and you backed up your claims. That's more than many do.

And I agree with whoever it was that said it earlier. Quit obsessing about not having a girlfriend. You'd be surprised how quickly available women crawl out of the woodwork once you've become comfortable with the idea that you're just fine without them. :)

I'll miss ya Daniel. I also sorta miss seeing darell's posts too. I mean, I've noticed a lot of people sort of drifting off. It happens. I joined up a LONG time ago, I think just after you did. And, I had a big dying out for a few years. I'm involved again but you never know when life is going to take over and pull you away.

As can be seen by the number and passion of the respondents here you are a loved and respected member of the Prius community Daniel. i really have enjoyed your contributions to the forums and the community, my only disappointment was you were unable to attend Prius Connection Detroit. I'd love the chance to get to know you better, and if you lived near me I feel sure you and I would be friends, not just virtual friends. You have made me think more about my impact on this planet and about exploring this planet more than anyone I know. Love reading about your adventures and your thoughts.

Please if you read this send your email address to those who you feel you would like to maintain contact with (sending PM next), and as Bev said, if you come to Adelaide please let us know ahead and you will have 2 very enthusiastic tour guides. You are one person I would take leave from work to show around, I know I'd gain more from your presence that you would from mine.

If you post somewhere on the internet about your travels please spend the 10 seconds required to copy and paste to PriusChat, we love hearing of your adventures.

Oh and as far as being single, you are not alone, I am single too. My son lives here 50% of the time but like most 17 year olds he has less and less to do with his parents as he develops his independent personality. And if you think you're ugly, you haven't seen my photos have you?

Happy trails my man, call in please and take care.

I was a little stumped at this thread, since I had not seen anything other than my intial posts, but now I have some douche saying he does not believe me about problems I am having with my car. Maybe instead of Daniel leaving, the admins or mods should go through and get rid of the trouble makers and keep the good people, which it sounds like Daniel is one of the good ones.

It's been a pleasure to have known you over the past years on PriusChat. Do check in from time to time. It'll be great to hear from you and see how you're doing. Remember to keep your password somewhere accessible just in case Toyota builds something that brings you back to PriusChat!

    daniel;

as always even your "farewell" is organized, insightful and well thought out. but it need not be goodbye. a lesser role here, an occasional thought, etc. is more valuable from you than a 1000 posts about disappointing gas mileage during the winter.

this site was created for the reasons you have stated, but has morphed into so much more. it is a community, a place to go. its not always about cars. some like that, some dont, i do. if i didnt, i would not be here and granted some posts get carried away into oblivion.

so, i wont see you here as much, that i can understand. priorities change, we grow, we change. but there is always part of this site that does not need growth because its not for growth, its to humanize the movement of electrons we call the internet. in that regard, you are one of the best
