Ok, it's not a Prius, but Danny hasn't started HybridHighlanderChat.com yet. I placed a deposit, today, on a loaded 4WD Limited NV package HH with Josh Parker at Reliable Toyota in Springfield, MO...the same dealer and dealership I got my Prius from. I'm currently #6 on the list for the HH at that dealership.

No idea when I'll get it. I (actually my wife) requested a gray interior, leather, XM radio, SKS (no idea if that will be available either) and any other major options available.

I just reviewed the list of the options offered on the Highlander Hybrid. Remote Keyless Entry System is available. I am not sure that is the same as SKS.

To view the list, go to Toyota Future Vehicles, select the Highlander Hybrid | FAQ & Options | Options.

Thanks for the link. I don't think remote keyless entry is the same as SKS...more like a remote control...maybe a keypad on the door. Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Ummm...Maybe you should change the topic title to "...1/20/05"? Just a suggestion! ;-)

Any idea on cost or potential EPA MPG ratings?

I've got a ton of "ideas", but no data or facts.

Price will be in the 40s..maybe high 40s for the 4WD limited, loaded hybrid.

MPG? Real world prob. in the high twenties, EPA will say 30s.

Data says 600 mile range, but does not specify hybrid fuel tank capacity.

3.3 liter engine is over twice the size of the Prius ICE, and they claim a total output of 270 horsepower.

    3,300 pound towing capability.

I own a paid for 1997 Ford F350 XLT Crew Cab Dually with the International Harvester tried and true 444 cubic inch diesel that was purchased new with seven miles on it. One reason for adding the Prius ot the personal fleet is that it fills 80% of my driving needs and keeps the early retirement of my truck postponed.

My brother has a Sienna, I looked at the stickers on them today at the local dealer, 19/26 EPA MPG seems like a real hog now after getting used to vastly better mileage.

I think you are being a little too conservative on what this hybrid should do in actual MPG. I bet it does 34 to 38 in actual practice, considering the weight/power differentials from the Prius.

The price? 43,546 is the MSRP on the gas only '05 according to the "build your vehicle"...

    Dang options list is dizzying.

I am beginning to feel like I am driving a bargain from my fully loaded Prius.

    8) Doc,

If I understand you correctly, your wife will be driving the new Highlander, and you will still be driving the Prius?

    Yea, most of the time.

We'll be selling/trading in her minivan and my Expedition ('97 with 133k) to make this our combination travel/fishing/skiing/hauling family trip vehicle.

With the price est. above looks like we'll be pushing 50 grand for the loaded version...yikes!

My mpg estimates came from looking at the Ford Escape...it is certainly possible that the HSD system will offer enough improvement in performance to improve on those numbers, but I'm not willing to count those particular chickens just yet.

    8) Doc,

You are now the second person that I now know that has placed their order for the Highlander Hybrid. A friend of mine that work with me has also ordered on for his wife as well.

I guess, I would be just a little concerned about backing a boat down a launch ramp, with the electric motors on or near the wheels though.

    Ben,

I'll have you know that someone on this forum was recently writing raves about the fording capabilites of the Prius.

After having had the front end of an old Chevy station wagon lifted up while driving through a flooded street, I would NEVER advise anyone to do that with any vehicle, much less a Prius. Having said that, its obvious that this fording with a Prius PriusChat contributor did not report immediate component failure of those motors, but you can bet some lowered component life to occur.

Congratulations! I'm sure it (interior) will fill up quickly.

If I could give points to Toyota, I'd give them some for coming up with an option package called NV.

The non-hybrid Highlander has a 19.1 gallon tank. Using that the numbers look like 31-32 mpg...maybe more.

When you placed your order, what sort of paperwork did that have you fill out -- a regular sales form -- but without the $$$? A

And what's the cancellation policy, just in case when they fill in the $$$ that it's too rich for your taste or they decide on taking on a large premium above Sticker?

    Thanks!

Yea, regular form just like for any other car. MSRP is in writing. Wrote in color and options preferences.

Option to decline with return of deposit when the car comes in. This is with a very trusted dealer--the same to did amazing things to get me a Prius very early.

Word on the street is that dealers will stop taking orders because the market will bear $4000 over MSRP!!!

I want to see the Lexus RX 400H It will answer alot of questions. I don't see any smart key for the Highlander as an option. Us Prius owners are spoiled. The Lexus averaged 27 mpg on the 2 day trip in snow ect.

F/U e-mail from my dealer on 3/10! I'm apparently 4th on their waiting list. They've been told they'll be allocated 1.7 HH's/month (I do not know, 5 vehicles divided up amongst them and 2 other dealerships each month?). They expect their first to hit the lot in mid-June and that the SUV manager said I should see mine around October, but by the salesman's math it seems more like August.

We're not in a huge hurry and will wait for the package and color we want. Still no pricing or other details.

A wait? Not much for me.

    =465]http://69.93.188.20/~tundraso/fleet/showro...a[model_id]=465

That's what we have here/coming. Pre-sold cars get marked that they are pre-sold, and the cars with the -H (dash-H) after their stock #'s are either physically here or gonna be here within 1 month's time.

Reach me for anything that looks good!
