The car does not look like a total loss. Mine looked worse before I fixed it. Did the insurance company total it?

If you are OK the airbags did the right thing not going off. Because the airbags didn't deploy the vehicle may be able to be fixed, airbag replacement adds a lot to repair costs.
Good to see your typing fingers are still in working order and I trust the rest of you is too.

My wife had a similar accident in her Prius, repair bill was $10K, car replacement over $17K, so they fixed it and all is well. Because of the mileage (45K), the insurance authorized a salvaged front end instead of new. It was in the shop for three weeks, including a week for parts delivery.

Airbags did not deploy because of the angle of impact--not quite head-on, not quite side-impact. The sensors did their job well. Hope the other driver was insured. Most important is you walked away.

Glad you're okay. If the electric motor is pushed back, even an inch, it could be totaled. My wife hit a deer last year in our '08. The car looked similar to yours after the accident except for more hood damage. Airbags did not deploy on it either because it was not a direct center of the bumper hit but the electric power unit went back about an inch. Insurance company could not find anyone willing to touch it due to the motor having been moved so they totaled it and bought us an '09.

The bad luck just keeps on going
    1. Damage to car $5700.00 to date, doesnt include frame or rear passagerside panel (looks like a small wave/flex happened in this area and the insurance is saying its not due to the accident) pictures a took on 12/15/09 shows no wave/flex
    2. Kid was uninsured:mad: so now i have to my deductable until the kid pays up.
    3. My auto insurance isnt going to total it because steelership retail $18,200.00 (for before not after)
Insurance Company (There a major one) told me they have records for after sale cost, Ill call B.S.
Shouldnt they go off after not before retail price????

    Ill keep ya all posted

Most Uninsured and Underinsured coverage will pay depreciation loss on a damaged vehicle, it could pay you a big difference and make up for a lot of your loss, please check into that.

Wait! Could this be a great vehicle to do some experiments with? Like convert it into a plug-in, or hop up the ICE and suspension - you know, turn it into a "hot rod" sort of thing? If a vehicle is totaled, what happens to the vehicle? Does the insurance company keep it or demands it to be scrapped? This could have some great potential........

Oh - yes, I am glad you are OK. Damn the kid for blowing the right of way.

With the damage that the pix show on the passenger side of your Prius it means that you must have hit his rear end as he was turning left in front of you. That means he was completely oblivious to oncoming traffic; or he didn't see you; or it happened on a blind curve; or what?

Just trying to visualize how this happened!

    He was taking a chance.
He was making a left turn on a green light
There was a line of cars blocking his veiw (oncuming traffic left turn) he just hit the gas.
at this point i was already in the intersection. I had 0 time to stop.
i just tried to avoid him.
the impact was on his passagerside rear at axle.

I was once dreaming the samething.
    keeping the factory system upfront
    move the battery system
drop in a mid engine V8

when 3/4 of gas is needed its starts up.

When there is major damage from an accident, should one take their Prius to a certified Toyota collision shop? Or, is a regular collision shop or insurance company affiliate shop OK to use? I wonder because I don't know if a regular shop has the expertise for the mechanical repair part from the accident.

maybe i'm wrong, but if you get the license plate and know who hit you, even if the other party had NO insurance, doesn't that wave your deductible???

i had a car that got hit while it was parked, the person tried to just run away and thank goodness someone got his plate number. he had no insurance and because we got the license plate, the deductible was waved. check into this.

Most people have "uninsured motorist" insurance for just this sort of thing. As you point out, you have to know the other motorist, or your insurance company will question whether they are uninsured. It's a silly thing, but that's how they do it.
