Just bought a 2005 Package #6 off the dealer lot yesterday. Negotiated a measly $150 off msrp, which just about made up for the outrageously overpriced rear bumper applique already on the car. I expect prices will soften further as supply catches up.

I have seriously considered cars ranging from an Audi A6 to a Scion xB over the past six months, but kept on coming back to the Prius as the most sensible car for the suburban driver. I was very close to buying a Volvo V50 T5 but got hassles over finding the right packages etc. I have three young children (3 - 7 yo) and a 40 lb dog, and the Prius is just right for around-town driving, where I expect it will excel. We have a minivan for longer journeys.

I think this site will answer all my questions - its great to know that the Prius has such a strong owner community.

Love the car so far. Had no problems connecting my Nokia 3600 (Cingular) via blutooth and making and receiving hands free calls. The JBL stereo is not as rich as I had hoped but the 6-CD changer is great and the cassette deck allows me to connect my iPod mini without having to use one of those troublesome FM transmitters. I've averaged about 39mpg in 50 miles of driving (short trips) with the A/C on. I'll be happy if I can get mid-40s consistently.

Congratulations. I have had my package #5 (silver) for 3 weeks now and have driven about 1,600 miles. No problems. Gas mileage averages 48 mpg. It is a perfect commuter car but I would not hesitate taking it across the country. I also have the JBL premium. The sound is just ok. I changed the smart key setting so that it would open all the doors, not just the driver's door.

Congrats and welcome to Prius Chat!!!! I got mine from inventory off the lot as well. Things are starting to become easily available in certain parts of the country. I figure by late summer/early fall, it will get easier, unless gas skyrockets and lots of people come to their senses and ditch their suburban assault vehicles :p I'm counting on gas going up, but not a mass of people suddenly changing their minds and dumping 40k dollar SUV's as trade ins at Toyota dealerships. 2006's are supposed to hit lots I believe in November/December, so by then we should start seeing good availability and MSRP or less on '05s on the lots (in a perfect world I guess). I was lucky enough to get mine at about $800 off MSRP...anyways, welcome and enjoy your time here!

    Dave.

I just put a deposit down on a Tideland Pearl Prius (delivered to the dealer today), package #4 (AM). I'm driving saturday to go see it in person, to make sure that the color isn't horrible, but barring any unforseen disasters...I should be driving home in a brand new Prius!! No wait-list, and the dealer has offered to knock 800 $$ off the MSRP to cover the remaining payments in my current lease! I was flabbergasted, no dealer so far has given any inkling of a deal....

It's like Christmas....keep your fingers crossed for me!!

I've had my car for 16 days now, and I too bought it off the lot. The devil is in the details though, as I sent inquiries to 14 New England dealerships looking for my car. The ones that replied were happy to put me on a list @ MSRP with a wait of 60-90 days. I "found" my car in inventory at a Northern NH dealership...05 Silver pkg. #6...just like I wanted, and was able to get it for $1,650 under MSRP. They delivered it the following day.

Based on my (limited) experience, I think it is safe to say the market is softening a bit, especially the further you get (in NE) from the Metro areas.

    Congrats on your purchase!

I new I shouldn't have told the folks at work that I had put one on hold....I ran into a small $$ snafu... The one I had on hold is probably sold to someone else now...(it was at the Dover dealership...) I'm not giving up, but still need to finesse the details. Then I'll be calling all the NH dealers again.

    Thanks and wish me luck!

I believe the dealership in Portsmouth has a few in stock (or at least they did on Friday). Good luck!
