My factory 6 CD changer won't play CDs anymore. I tried with both retail and homemade CDs. When I toggle through the steroe options using the mode key - AM->FM->FM2->Aux->AM - the CD option doesn't appear anymore. There are no CDs in the player. When I try to insert one, it ejects it and reloads it three times before ejecting it for good. There are some red LED lights flashing on the "Load" side of the CD slot when this happens. Everything else about the stereo works fine.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is ther a magic sequence of stereo key presses during power on (or off) that will restore the CD player? If it requires replacement, are there cheap options? Is there a step-by-step guide out there to remove the radio?

I do not have a 2006 but maybe this will be of some help. My wife's Honda Accord has a 6 CD changer. On hers, first you have to indicate what CD slot you want to load, then when you press the Load button, you have to wait until the flashing light under the Load button changes from red to green before you can load.

Does the flashing light ever turn green before you try to Load, or does it turn red while attempting to load? If it is green and then turns red during the loading process, that might indicate a CD changer problem.

On my 2010. the CD tab will not be available until a CD is loaded. Mine will also skip over the CD choice when stepping through AM, FM, SAT, etc. with no CD loaded.

I recommend that you try disconnecting the 12V battery negative terminal, to see if that allows the CD portion of the stereo to reset.

If that doesn't help, then you'll probably be best off by buying a replacement salvage unit.

Here is the classic guide regarding how to disassemble the 2G dashboard:

Two days after posting this, I was goofing around with the CD player while sitting in traffic (again). I kept trying to get it to accept a CD, but it wouldn't take it and keep it loaded. However, the cycling of the unit forced out a small piece of paper that was once part of a self-adhesive CD label. I pulled that paper out and viola! CD player operations restored.

All I can image was that the paper was blocking a sensor in the unit. So, my lesson learned is to never use a CD label on a home-burned disc.

Thanks to all who responded. I'll keep the dash dismantling guide for future reference.

Thanks for keeping us informed and congratulations on the revived CD player. :)
