So do you think it is a good idea to get the Extended Warranty?

I added the 7 year $0 DED 100k Miles to my Prius. It only cost about $900.00. One major out of waranty repair and it be break even.

Any extended warranty is a gamble. The winner is usually the warranty issuer, and not the warranty buyer. The best most folks who buy extendeds can hope for is a break even situation, where the price of the warranty covers the cost of an unexpected major repair.

I purchased the 7/75,000 warranty because this vehicle is new technology and may have some unforseen repairs down the road which I do not wish to have to absorb on my own, however in a few years, I will not choose an extended warranty on my next vehicle.

I do trust Toyota with regard to their technology. I think they have done a wonderful job with it and certainly they have not engineered the vehicle to have a specific obsolescence date. However with all engineering endeavors, you can only predict so many future real world conditions and then build the product around those. The experience they have with the previous generations of Prius have pretty much made this version the most solid Hybrid they have designed. They will continue to improve the design based upon real world issues customers experience.

You need Troy's warranty on this thread, $985 for 7 years, 100,000 miles with 0 deductible. I never bought an EW before, but considered it wise because of all the technology. Hope I lose the gamble.

I didn't get it, but that's because I was spoiled by owning another Toyota for 9 years. From what I have read, you have time to decide on buying it, as long as you are still within the 3 year/36,000 miles. I may consider it later.

I agree, bought mine from Troy also and the process was flawless. It's nice to do business with a dealer like him.
