Yet another Garage door remote thread

    I have a Prius IV with NAV. A Linear garage door opener with Rolling code learn button.

    After searching these forums, I guess I'm not the only one with the garage door remote problem. I just can't get it to work with Home Link. I tried everything I've read so far.

    Change battery on remote, pointed away from rear view mirror, pointed at the mirror, hit the learn button all day, pushed the H.L. button longer than two seconds,...nothing.
    I had a 2006 ML350 and the garage remote works perfectly.

    Is it too much to ask for this to work?
    In the mean time, I have to go buy an extra remote for the new car....

    I wish I had a better First Post story...

    I have the same car. Dealer was clueless when I called, My house is new, called Garage door company, clueless. Prius owners manual, useless. Garage door opener manual, useless. Called Homelink, the tech support was awesome!! She walked me through setting up both doors. Call them. I sent a nice thank you to them. I also called the dealer to let them know how to program :D

    After reading the instructions a couple times, and trying it a couple more times, I got my newer rolling code opener working with my homelink. I found I was leaving a step out somewhere along the way when it didn't work.

    There's either an incorrect or missing step in the manual. Sorry, don't recall what it was as I was running around with the lady on the phone :) I have 13' ceilings in my garage, so I was on the ladder pressing the button on back of opener and then in the car a few times an didn't correct the steps.

    Nothing technical works for this old lady the first time, it seems, but programming the remote was a snap! Now if I could just learn how to use the Nav system--still haven't gotten phone numbers into the directory for the Bluetooth!

    2006 Prius ...No Problem

    2010 Prius IV...oh what a pain

    1) Place remote close to mirror

    2) Push button on mirror and remote at same time while waiting for the mirror light to blink rapidly, takes some time.

    3) Release both buttons

    4) Then push learn on overhead...while learn light in on return to Prius then push button on mirror...WALA!!

    That's it!!!!!!! I have a Chamberlain garage door opener with rolling codes. Based on the manual, I interpreted it as EITHER steps 1-3 or 4 by itself. You have to do 1-4.

    And to refine #4: after pressing "learn" on the door opener itself, return to car to press the button you want to program by holding it down for 2sec, let go, and then again for 2sec.

    FIXED!

    Went to Homelink website.

    1.) The missing step that's not in the Manual is to press Homelink Buttons #1 and #3 together until the lights blink fast. This resets the HL buttons.

    Then follow the regular steps of:

    2.) pushing and holding a Homelink Button and the garage remote together for at least 30 seconds until the homelink light blinks fast "red" (slow first then fast). Then release both buttons.

    Then try the HL button and see if it works.

    I have a learning garage door opener but I didn't have to press the learn button to complete it (???).



    Here's for the Linear Garage door opener:

    1.For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds. (Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.)

    2.Position the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink surface (located on your mirror), keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.

    3.Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button and hand held transmitter button. DO NOT release until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. (The rapid flashing indicates successful training.)



    4.Press and hold the trained HomeLink button and observe the indicator light.
    • If the indicator light is solid/continuous, training is complete and your device should activate when the HomeLink button is pressed and released.
    • If the indicator light blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns a solid/continuous light, proceed with the following training instructions for a rolling code device. A second person may make the following steps quicker and easier. Please use a ladder or other device. Do not stand on your vehicle to perform the next steps.
    5.At the garage door opener receiver (motorhead unit) in the garage, locate the “learn†or “smart†button (usually near where the hanging antenna wire is attached to the unit). If there is difficulty locating the training button, reference the garage door opener’s manual

    6.Press and release the “learn†or “smart†button (the name and color of the button may vary by manufacturer). NOTE: Once the button is pressed, there are 30 seconds in which to initiate the next step.

    7.Return to the vehicle and firmly press and hold the trained HomeLink button for two seconds and release. Repeat the “press/hold/release†sequence up to 3 times to complete the training process.


    HomeLink should now activate your device.

    You guys are SO awesome! After messing with this for a half hour (and hanging my head in frustration), I went on the internet and found this hint. I have a very old LiftMaster and these steps worked great for me! I only added one pre step - to erase all current contents first.

    i have had several vehicles w/homelink & rolling code gate/garage and it drove me crazy but finally figured it out.

    It's a 2 step process: program it using the garage remote per the instructions. let the homelink accept the code, although it will NOT work but you have to do it w/the remote first. 2nd step is to now program using the button on the garage door mechanism itself. On my garage motor, there's a little button u can press, after which I go back to the homelink switch and press it. when u press the program button located somewhere on the actual garage motor, it sends a constant signal for 15-30 seconds; then u rush back to your car to push the homelink button to receive the signal. once u've done both steps, it should work. it's tricky but basically the rolling code systems require u to program & fail using the remote and then succeed when u follow up with programming directly w/the button located on the garage door motor. am i making any sense?

    Spent tons of time trying to figure out my issue with Homelink. The garage openings went fine including one with a rolling code but the gate into our neighborhood was no joy. On a whim i used the Cdn technique from manual - press homelink button, then cycle standalone remote buttonon an off (two seconds on, then off), until mirror's homelink light goes to fast flashing. Then success it worked.

    Bringing up a very old thread.

    So my wife and I moved into a new house a week ago and absolutely loving it! All 3 of the buttons have been program to my old house and my parents' garage doors. I want to program one of our garage doors at our new house without erasing other programed buttons. Is there a way to do it without pushing buttons 1 and 3, which will erase everything?
