I've been a lurker on this board for months -- just posted my support for this bill.
Not yet a Prius owner, I have an order in with my car broker. It may be 2005 before I get mine...but hope this bill passes anyway (even if I might be shut out of it...)

    cheers,
    Phil

Looks like the Governator is getting on the Hybrids for HOV bandwagon:

    http://www.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1413,20...2072216,00.html

"Arnold, Angelides aboard on diamond lane for hybrids"

The legislation introduced by Pavley would allow hybrids that get at least 45 miles per gallon to use the state's 1,112 miles of car-pool lanes.

This means the Prius, Civic Hybrid and Insight would qualify, but the new Ford Escape, the hybrid SUV going on sale this summer, would not.

Ok, so tomorrow they are going to look at the bill. Has everyone in California sent his or her support??? We want that to pass. Lets all cross our fingers and hope it passes while we are all at work. By the way, does anyone know when we will be finding out about what happened and if it passed?

    Hoping for the best tomorrow!!!,
    Brian :D

I will post the results of the vote in the Transportation Committee as soon as they are available, assuming that the hearing does actually take place tomorrow (Monday 4-12) as scheduled. Thanks are due to everyone who responded. The response was overwhelming. Some of you may know that there was a press conference in LA on Thursday 4-8 held by Assemblymember Pavley (the author of the legislation) and Treasurer Phil Angelides. We coordinated having a number of Prii and Honda Civic Hybrids in attendance, and several of our drivers were interviewed, cars made it on tv etc. The press conference got good play on much of the media in LA and San Diego and throughout CA. Thanks to those who made it and showcased their cars! Assuming the bill is voted out of committee, I will post the timetable for the next steps.

Thanks again, and especially thanks to our Admin for making the original post a Sticky.

I sent a comment in support of the Diamond Lane being available for single drivers of Hybrids.

The vote in the Transportation Committee was 11-0 in favor! Everyone's efforts certainly paid off. The next steps are as follows:
The legislation gets forwarded to the Appropriations Commitee, where it will be heard the week of May 17 at the latest. It must be reported out by May 21. (The feeling is that there is not much problem in the appropriations committee since there are virtually no costs that will not be borne by the beneficiaries of the bill.) Once the appropriations committee votes it out, it goes to the floor of the Assembly where it must be voted out by May 28. Assuming it is passed it goes over to the Senate. Similar committee hearings will be held in the Senate. Assuming it passes there too it will go to Gov. Schwartzenegger to sign. Earliest is expected to be in September. It would go into effect 1/1/2005 if the Feds pass the enabling legislation (it is in the energy bill) anytime before the end of the year.

Assemblymember Pavley's office asks that we keep up the comments and specifically that people go to her web site http://democrats.assembly.ca.gov/members/a41/ and send e-mails to her specifically so that she can include them in the package she takes to the floor of the Assembly. Keep up the good work!
