Why did you get your Prius?

    When you buy a car you have to pay VAT (which is 19%) and BPM which is 0,- for the Prius since it's such a low emmision vehicle. :)

    My current gas usage is about 11 liters/100km. I can get that 4,4 liter V8 under 10 liters/100km, but that involves no breaking, and getting up to speed along with the slow traffic (trucks, elderly people) on the highway. If I put the BMW into sport or shift semi-manually it can go up to 12,5 liters/100km.

    I hope to get about 4,5 liters/100km in my new prius. :amen:

    The 2010 Prius is quite simply the most technologically advanced car on the road today and in my mind the only car that made sense.
    My hat is off to Toyota for building such an innovative car.

    I came on a nice chunk of change after some scratchers payed off.
    And the looks (pure sex) of the Prius is what initially lured me in. After doing some research and realizing the potential gas savings the Prius had to offer, I couldn't say now. After gathering up my scratcher winnings and combining it with the cash I had from selling my previous vehicle (1986 Pontiac Fiero) I purchased a 2010 Prius and could not be happier.

    11L/100km isn't bad but I assume that's in mixed driving conditions and not mostly stop & go traffic. You're quoting near V6 mileage...

    I switched from performance vehicles background. I used to have modified 2000 Celica GT-S 6 spd. Then I changed to a Subaru 2005 WRX wagon. They were awesome when the gas price was low and very fun to drive. After Subaru AWD system, I believed that I would never back to FWD or RWD vehicle. Now I have to drive almost 100 miles round trip to work and expecting a kid, I guess the Prius is the best for me. I hope Toyota will do it good and fix the brake problem. I have faith in Toyota.

    We actually went in to buy a Scion xB, drove and just didn't like it. Wife said this Prius
    is only a few grand more than the xB let's drive it, 5 minutes into the test drive and we were
    sold. I had done no research or anything and that's not like me. It just made sense and
    we've been happy ever since, we're averaging 50.1 mpg. I can't think of any other car
    that I have over the Prius at this point.

    Perhaps I'm not such a wasteful driver after all? :unsure:

    It is mixed driving, quite a lot of traffic on a daily bases even. On highway drives I manage to get to 8,5l/km driving a constant 120km/h.

    I omitted the word 'long' in the previous sentence since long here means 3 to 4 hours of driving max and in TX you would probably mean 8 to 10 hours of driving by a 'long drive'.

    I had been eyeing a more fuel-efficient (primary reason) and "greener" (secondary reason) replacement for my '02 Accord Coupe (4cyl), but the Gen II Prius just wasn't cutting it on power, style, or most other measures.
    I liked the look of the Crosstour concept, but they were still a "we haven't decided" from Honda - and mileage was expected to be fair to average, at best... The Fusion had a shot, but it's just not that fuel-efficient - if they pared down the power and shed about 700lbs, it would be, but even then the cargo space would be inadequate (I carry a bunch of sports gear around with me most of the time. I would prefer to buy American, if the big 3 would learn how NOT to make the same old crap - and the Fusion is the same old crap in a hybrid form.

    When the 2010 Prius was announced, it instantly moved to the top of the list. Much more "normal" in every respect: the styling is better, the hp is much closer to the norm for mid-sized cars, and so on. The rear window visibility is actually much better than that Accord (I have to back down a hill to get out of my driveway, so I know).

    I finally took the plunge in December because of the sales tax deduction, and the fact that dealers had built up a little stock after the "cash for clunkers" rush. Didn't get a great deal because they didn't have the model II's in the color I wanted so I got a III, and I didn't get what I wanted for my trade-in, but it was close enough.

    I don't expect to be fully satisfied until temps warm up enough to get 50mpg consistently - my winter driving is more highway, and so far my lifetime mileage for the past 7 weeks is about 42mpg. (I realize this is the coldest part of the year, so I'm not freaking out about that)

    Maybe?? Our 2.4 litre 4 cylinder Camry (4-spd auto) got about 10.5-11L/100km according to the trip computer in nearly 100% city driving (my city doesn't have highways that run through the city like some North American cities). 10.5L/100km is the average if the tank included a highway trip to the U.S. (highway mileage is rated at 6.7L/100km and it's fairly consistent).

    This morning I did a drive from Dordrecht to Schoondijke and back which is 140 km each way. Almost no other cars in sight (sundaymorning) and mostly highway driving at 120km/h. I averaged out on 10.1 l/100km according to the trip computer which is pretty neat. :)

    On the last stretch of 'straight flat road' I did a 1km 70km/h run which is I think the optimal speed for that engine. It came down to 6.5 l/100km. So if you want to drive a BMW 540i touring and you want to do it fuel efficient, drive 70km/h all the time ;)

    lol. wow.. that's a huge jump at 120km/h. ouch. I guess with most cars, 70-80km/h is ideal. On the old Prius (2005), I get 5.1L/100km at 70mph (~110km/h). If I do 80km/h, it's down to 4.2L/100km.

    Then again, I assume the 540i Touring is much better on the highway (comfort & stability) given that it's a bigger car, with more sound insulation and wider tyres... and it's a BMW.

    Despite the fact that I'm European, I started to appreciate hybrid cars driving rented Gen II Prius during my frequent travels in the States. I loved Gen II, but I felt it a bit underpowered, at least for the challenging and competitive European streets. So, when the more powerful Gen III Prius arrived in Europe (late 2009), I decided to sold my 7-years old six-cylinders turbo-diesel and I ordered the car that now I own, a grey Prius 2010. After two months and 2000 km, I can't say I'm totally happy, there are pros and cons. So far, my fuel consumptions are marginally better than my old diesel car (i.e. around 6 l/100 km), but performances are definitively inferior. By other hands, I am "green" now, and, even if not perfect, my Prius is very nice to drive.
    What is really annoying me, is the so-called "brake issue", that is provoking all sort of laughs from relatives and colleagues ("do you really feel safe driving a Prius?"). I hope that this nuisance will end, soon.

    I wanted better fuel economy but couldn't afford a prius, Saw a wrecked one for 8500 and rebuilt it. Made some mistakes but came out with a good little car. I complain about cold weather 49mpg but my son said" If you get much better mpg you'll have to start selling gas" 52/ 55 in summer and no quirks.

    When the time came to replace my 01 Civic, I knew that I wanted a hybrid that would be more gentle on the environment. I thought the Insight was too small, I didn't like the interior, the colors or how it drove. I didn't want a sedan, so the fusion was out.

    I LOVE my Prius! The interior is spacious and comfortable. It drives great and I love the red! I also love the tech bells and whistles.

    They won't be laughing when their cars break down at the side of the road =).

    6L/100km?! I do not know how cold it is in Rome in February but you should be able to do better once the car breaks in (esp. this summer with warmer temps!). Don't worry.

    I am still waiting for our new Prius III, in production, but the almost 5 years old Citroen C4 aut is consuming too much. So I expect to have a nice drop on the petrol account in late spring.
