    Only had mine for 6 months (S/H 2004 Gen-2) but I've never exerienced any problems at all with braking.

    I find it kind of weird that up until now hardly anyone here has ever complained of braking problems in the Gen-2, now all of a sudden there are like 40% (according to the current numbers in this poll) of users who say they have a problem. Hmmm, how come they managed to keep so quiet about it before now. :confused:

    I think you mean "don't".

    I have to laugh at the idea that in this country someone who can spell past a 3rd grade level is "some NY snob". Things are worse than I thought.

    The main issue is on the Bumpy roads (and potholes), not the Prius' brake system.
    Car computer can only do so much......

    Why people/media won't ask for 'Recall' of those 'bumpy' roads from the local govts?
    Give us 'better' roads, not software 'workaround' from the automobiles.

    Bravo. Maybe Toyota can fix the Railroad tracks also with a software fix.

    Only in that we have to absorb and put up with people who don't communicate with others very well unless they can have everything 'just so'. Is the object of the exercise to correct each other; or communicate?

    In your case Eoin, I feel it the former and not the latter. That is a shame as we don't get the benefit of your very fine mind when you resort to emotionalism instead.

    I only make it an issue because I have been seeing "breaks" instead of "brakes" more and more recently. It is almost as though it is becoming an alternative spelling. Since I am not a prescriptive grammarian I would be able to accept this trend; after all. language is constantly evolving. My only question is - why? Why confuse two completely different words just because they happen to be homonyms? After all, we don't say "He joined the navy and went to see". As for your emphasis on communication, good communication requires precision and sloppy word use reflects sloppy thinking. The larger issue here is the low level of educational standards in this country which will threaten our standard of living relative to the rest of the world if they are not improved.

    The only problem with the brakes on my 2005 is if I have to panic stop I worry that anyone behind me might rear-end me because this little devil really stops. Changing to Michelin Hydro-Edge tires makes it stop in even a shorter distance.:first:

    That may also have something to do with the brake light activation characteristics that some owners have been reporting. At least one member has claimed that their brake lights came on late, and as a result, they were rear-ended. I'll try and find the post again, since this is relying on memory from my searching for brake issue threads.

    Prius fanboys, please don't jump down my throat before I even have a chance to look. :hand:

    No brake problems so far...

    No braking problems in my first 40K miles with the Prius.

    The GMC Yukons I drove (before the Prius) had a lot of issues on downhill, pothole, or slippery surface stops. It's just something you deal with, nothing is perfect. :)

    I had a 2007 Prius for 3 years and never had any issues with mine.

    I now have a 2010 Prius and i believe the issue is way overblown in it too. in fact i wonder if the people experiencing the issue are running their tires overinflated.

    No problems here and I have ran pressures between 50psi-62psi. 105,000 miles and no braking issues at all. Traction control is another story. lol

    Just some food for thought.

    As I understand it ...

    Out of all the 2010 Prii sold in the US as of January -- approx. 130,000 if my memory serves -- there have been 140 "official" complaints filed, and included within those complaints there were four resultant accidents.

    This is according to one of the ever-present updates on the so-called "Toyota Crisis" I caught on CNBC on Monday or Tuesday morning.

    So ... what's that: complaints have been filed by just a touch over one-tenth of one percent of all 2010 Prius owners? And one thirty-fifth of THAT figure resulted in accidents?

    And your story with/about Traction Control is? BTW, the problems/issues that are being reported about the braking on slippery and/or washboard-like surfaces could be an issue with Traction Control....

    Umm that it is too senstitive. That is no news item with regards to the 2004-2005 Prius, it was corrected on the 2006+ models. The car cuts power when the tires start to slip. I've almost gotten stuck on one of my nature preserves because of deep gravel on a steep hill.

    To be clear this has in no way affected my braking performance. I have never had any braking issues or complaints. I've driven over washboard gravel roads, dirt roads, and logging roads with holes so deep and rocks so large I'd have to treat the road like an autocross course and still never had an issue with braking.

    Wouldn't you want to have the latest safety functionality that the 2006+ cars have? Especially if all that is involved is a software flash?

    It's not. Upgrading the 2004-2005 traction control requires a new skid control ECU.

    Perhaps the pre-2006 skid control ECU is marginal and really should be replaced?

    My 05 brakes go out intermitenly vcs,abs,break and check engine lights come on and the break pedal get hard cant stop no vacume boost then for no reason the breaks might start working . I quit driveing my car makeing payments maybe not for long?
