Should Toyota acknowlege that the braking issue applies to the gen II Priuses?

Perhaps you should re-read the last sentence of my post that you quoted:
I am wanting an objective expert to make a finding of facts on the issue. It is unfortunate that a number of PC members are not willing to do the same.

Presumably your point is that other manufacturers have ABS recalls? Have I ever said that other manufacturers were free of ABS problems? I did say in one thread that I have other cars with ABS that have a linear application interaction (words to that effect) and that the drop-out/slippage/whatever that is being posted about for the Gen II Prius is not present in the other cars. But that is not saying that other manufacturers are free of ABS problems.

apriusfan, you've said pretty much the same thing in probably a thousand posts in the last couple of weeks. Who do you think is on this site hasn't read a few hundred of them or who is going to be convinced by you saying it again? Is it that you neeed the last word?

Not to worry. Toyota and the government are both looking into this.

I think a number of Gen II owners feel that this is not a safety issue, and as such, get their hackles up when people scream as if the sky is falling.

As I posted eariler, do a Bing search on brake problems, and all kinds of reports pop up, some of which from Ford, GM, and Chrysler were and are quite serious (more serious than the Toyota probelm).

Virtually all late-model cars involved in any kind of accident have the accident data stored in the automotive equivalent of a black-box, which can be read out by investigators and manufacturers.

If there was sufficient data to note this as a problem, there would be hoots and howls coming from the insurance industry and the government.

As it stands right now, as far as the Gen II braking being an issue, there's whole lot of heat-but no fire.

It appears to be a bug with the vBulletin software-I've seen several instances of double-posted messages here.

I am not disagreeing with your statement, but I have a few posts to my name and not a single double post. Hence my curiosity when I saw it happen.

State Farm has actually been recovering from Toyota for losses they have sustained. Here is one article about State Farm and Toyota: State Farm says it warned NHTSA on Toyota in 2007 - Forbes.com

As far as heat and no fire, absent an affirmative determination by NHTSA, I wouldn't go as far as you seem to be willing to go.

As far as the brake issue goes for the Gen II (which is what this thread is about), I stand by my statement. State Farm raised the flag on the unintended acceleration issue, but hasn't said anything regarding the Gen II brakes.

The lifecycle of NHTSA's review is still young. There is plenty of time for NHTSA to make a finding that there is a safety issue with the Gen II brakes. Unless Toyota beats them to the punch....

In your case, you were decelerating quite slowly. A small delta between "slow braking decel" and "no braking decel".

When I am braking more heavily (but lighter and more paranoid/responsible than many leadfoots) and this happens, my delta to "no braking decel" is, IMO, considerably larger than your delta.

And yes, the first time this happened to me, I had a a concerning level of fear in the pit of my stomach. It was heightened by the presence of other vehicles turning left in front of me, while my light was red and theres' was green.

Now I'm more used to it, and compensate to the point I rarely experience it on that one right turn lane with a raised manhole.

If it's a quirk of the car, as I've accepted then so be it. But if Toyota can improve this problem in any gen, IMO they should do so.

Wifes' 2010 is scheduled for the fix Monday. My 2008 waits.

You read my post yet you apparently did not comprehend what i said. Do you know how long 1 millisecond is, if so then think a little longer about what i said so you can critique it with some reasonable level of intelligence.

When you are talking about milliseconds, 30 to 50 (aprox 10% variance) milliseconds give or take is not a big deal when you are making a supposition. Plus i stated i did not know the exact numbers but i can still analyze to some degree the concept of how additional minor adjustments will actually impact the cars feel and be precieved by the driver.

I have owned numerous non hybrid cars and have experienced similar feel from many of them, granted not all felt the same but many have an odd feel to them like you are not totally in control, and of course if the ABS system has to engage in the first place you aren't in control, you are slipping.

I do however think the NHTSA has already responded by not responding for how many years now since the Gen II was introduced.

You can have the last post though because i am done wasting my time since you wont agree or stop till you have a response from a PH D in automotive engineering.
