Affected by the Recall

You do realize that the Prius is not included in this recall. All Prius are built with the Denso accelerator pedal, which has not had any problems.

The model year 2004 to 2009 Prius have a recall for floormats, model year 2010 Prius have a recall for braking software. No Prius has a recall for accelerators, as no Prius uses a North American built accelerator pedal. Only Toyotas with an accelerator pedal made in North America are subject to that recall.

One can learn way more about media frenzy than about automobiles with respect to these recalls.[End Quote]

Amazing. You just reinforced everyone on the board's opinion of the uninformed press. You might want to check your facts BEFORE you go out looking for evidence. Oh, wait, that would imply actual JOURNALISM.

Just to educate you, there is an older recall on Generation II (pre-2010) Prius to make sure the floor mat won't slip, and a recall on the Generation III (2010) for a software update related to the brakes. There is NO recall or talk of unintended acceleration on the Prius. Read through the following posts - when you are done there will be a test:

Unaffected by the Recall

Several levels of ownership going on here that's fer sure...


My Prius is a fine running little car... and I will buy another Toyota, when I need to get a truck.

So yes, journalist who does not capitalize 'I'm', we do have folks here affecting false personas, hoping to spread Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. Some wish to drag Toyota's reputation down closer to their own, some feel patriotism is belittling other nations rather than supporting your own, some others wish to be victims, hoping someone with deep pockets can be sued.

I have been driving since 1972, with cars by Ford (5), Chevy (1), Plymouth (1), Jeep (1), Mazda (2), Subaru (1), Nissan (1), and Toyota (2). None was perfect, each had it's quirks.

In the past, recalls have been very late and subdued, I think Ford had 9000 crashes before they recalled the Pinto. (I owned one) In this new era, Manufacturers are being forced to announce early and loudly. (I think Toyota had 4 crashes) This is causing drama as they are not even allowed time to devise a strategy to fix their cars before announcing they need fixed. (ziptieing your floormats down and 'don't drive your Toyota at all' are the result of forcing the announcement before a fix is ready) We will either get used to the vendor not having a fix at announcement time or they will have to be given more time than Toyota was. I have no prediction which it will be.

Having Toyota own up to mistakes, (HID headlight issues, Floormat issues, etc.) does not reduce my confidence in the company, rather the reverse. It was somewhat dismaying to see how long it took for Toyota to realize they had an issue with HID headlights, even though it was obvious here on Priuschat. The drama involved in changing the oil change interval from 5,000 to 10,000 miles on the 2010's was all poor communication from Toyota. (some poor owner was drug through quite a lot of disrespect here, because Toyota waffled so bad his story could not be verified for months) Frankness and honesty by Toyota are not causing me any concern for my safety.[End Quote]

The only effect is that I'm pondering an upgrade to my older Prius, as I think I can get a better deal on a 2010 than I otherwise would have.

My 05 and 09 have never had a single problem or repair needed.
