I would say, $40 to rotate the tires is alot, but then so is $43 for the oil change....

 

Probably included an extra charge for synthetic oil. Should have been no charge for the update.

Sure glad the Gen II's don't use that expensive, synthetic oil the Gen III's use.

I saw these and had to laugh. Oh how things just don't change. In the UK we appear to be sliding down the slippery slope towards European socialism and I can assure you it isn't pleasant!

 

I can't tell you how that sends shivers up my spine.

Of course, the change interval is half as often. So, the cost is kind of a wash... or less.

For me, doing the 2004 change myself with 5W-30 synthetic was $26.13. Doing the 2010 change myself with 0W-20 synthetic was $33.84.

A lot of places will do tire rotations for around $20. Though, if you're already at the Toyota dealer for the oil change (I recommend doing them yourself - save time and money) you'd be stuck waiting at another place just to save a few bucks. I look at it based upon what my time is worth as well.

There are a couple places here that will do rotations for free. Esp if you get a balance, alignment, etc done at the same time.

I am planning on doing the brake recall update in the spring, after I swap my snow tires off the car and put the original (i hate the stock tires, btw) ones back on. I hope that the dealership will then do the TPMS reset for free since they're already in the ECU to begin with.

 

$83 every 10,000 miles is not bad. Alot of people get regular dino oil changed at 3k like the little shops recomend, for around $30 so your paying less than most people.

 

Just had my 10k mile service and was charged £141.00 inc tax ($220). Seems expensive compared to the prices you're all quoting but it is actually a good price for the UK. My girlfriends 12.5k service on her Honda was £190.00 inc tax ($297).

 

Did they balance your tires too? Even if they didn't, if you consider the labor involved in rotating your tires and changing your oil, anything less than $100 isn't terrible. Remember, they have to dig out your wheel lock's "key" and pry off those hub cabs, too...

 

I didn't want the wheel locks & they didn't want to take them off.

 

I have not done my first oil change yet. However, when I asked the service department a few months ago they told me the 2010 Prius does not use synthetic oil (in Canada)...

 

I'm hoping I'm missing a big dose of sarcasm in this post...

 

My local dealer here in CT wanted $150+ for an oil change/tire rotation. Needless to say, I ended up doing the job myself! Feel a little bit better?
