Refunds from Toyota???

    I was wondering if anyone has contacted Toyota and successfully received any money back for loss in resale value or the cost of personal safety? I have a 2010 level 5 Prius... I wanted to contact Toyota and find out also what others have done in reference to this?

    I have done nothing in those regards. I see doing such as nothing more than an attempt to try and make a quick buck.

    I do not see this as a quick buck, but if I paid MSRP recently for the car and now because Toyota quality has gone down and the value is down, I would expect they do something... Not sure what, but they should take responsibility for the recalls and decrease in value...

    Another "something for nothing" remark in my opinion. Until you get ready to sell your car, it has not lost any resale value.

    If any money is received, I'll be astonished.

    And I'll take it to the manufacturers of every previous car I've ever owned (more than three decades), and ask them to match it. After all, every one of them suffered safety recalls too, and there is no rational reason for them to be held to a lesser standard.

    But until you succeed, I'll stick with buying a lottery ticket. It has better odds of returning something.

    Perhaps a more legitimate approach would be to demand compensation from the news media for depreciating the value of your Prius.

    Toyota didn't sell you their reputation. They didn't sell you the resale value of the car. They sold you a car - a collection of parts assembled in such a way as to get you from point A to point B relatively quickly and in relative comfort. When they discovered a defect in the car, they issued a recall to fix it - they're fixing your car for free.

    You won't get ANY money at all for the intangible qualities of the company that they never sold or guaranteed you in the first place.

    if it wasn't for a quick buck, why was "cost of personal safety" included in your OP? What cost of personal safety? You're driving a vehicle and by doing so, you assume all risks (what if someone ran the light and t-boned you? what if you hit black ice? what if a lamppost crashed right on top of your car? etc etc etc).

    When were you planning to sell?

    The price of gas then will have far more of an influence than a recall update.
