HBO is producing a documentary about Global Warming to air in 2006. One segment of the program will focus entirely on hybrid vehicles and owners. We are looking for hybrid owners who are from the Virginia/D.C. area, take advantage of the HOV incentive and are interested in sharing their story with us. There is a good chance that we will ask those who respond to be part of the documentary, so please only reply if you are comfortable with being in the film.

I edited the title to make it a little bit more informative. Sounds like an interesting opportunity. I know I watch any documentary that comes on HBO, so I look forward to seeing this one!

Too bad they are not interested in hybrid drivers who bought their cars for reasons other than driving in the HOV lanes.

I know a guy who bought a dual fuel pick up, runs nothing but regular gas but has the license plates to use the HOV lanes, not sure if he wants to be in film. Living in DC, I'm not certain I can get plates that allow me to use the HOV lanes in VA.

If there is interest in owners who aren't using the HOV lanes, I'd be happy to participate. Since the request if for DC owners, you will probably find that most DC owners are going against the traffic flow and HOV is not a factor.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

We don't specifically use the HOV incentive (since we live just over the mountains from Loudoun in WV). However, my wife's job as a clinical specialist for a medical device company takes her all over the DC area, from Hagerstown, to York, to La Plata, and sometimes down to Harrisonburg and Richmond. We've recently switched from a Ford Explorer to the Prius and we're loving it.

Drop me a private message if we can be of assistance.

I'm an Arlington resident and am the owner of a 2005 Prius. I didn't buy it for HOV use, rather for its environmental friendlieness and technology. I'd be interested in hearing from you.

I do love HBO and their docs - I live in the Springfield area and did get the plates for the HOV exception, though it isn't something I use regularly for work since I lack HOV lanes. I have had the opportunity to use it once though when HOV restrictions were in effect, and it was certainly one of many benefits this car brings to the table. I'd be glad to be contacted to help out in any way, feel free to PM me!

I live in Central Virginia - so I am not sure if you are interested in my experience. I don't use the HOV lanes- but I commute quite a bit and love my 2005 Prius. Feel free to email me [email protected] if you want any of my comments. I traded in a 4 Runner for my Prius.

    I'd be interested in participating.

I live in Fredericksburg, VA and commute 50 miles up I95 in my 2005 Prius. I utilize the HOV lanes every single day and it has changed my life by shaving 45 to 60 minutes - one way - off of my trip.

As an environmentally friendly person I've always wanted a Prius, but couldn't take the step to spend the money since I already owned two very economical cars.

I used to be in a carpool, but we had to disband when one of the three people was consistently late. I finally decided to buy one to help me get over a long-running medical condition that kept me from driving over two hours at a time. It has definitely helped me get over that!

I'm aware that the hybrid exemption to be on HOV lanes may be phased out - for very reasonable reasons - but I figure that any time saved was worth the cost of this fine car.

I'd be lying if I said that I don't care about the exemption. I've contacted the commissioner of the VA DOT, a VA state representative as well as a congresswomen to voice my opinion about the exemption (stated in a previous thread) and have received replies from two of them so far.

I'm thrilled that the MPG in the Prius is outstanding (56.9 average for one tank) and I'd definitely buy a second one when I need to replace my wife’s 1998 Honda Accord (it gets 30 MPG Hwy).

I live in Georgetown (thus don't get to use HOV lanes), where I am relegated to street parking. Being a well-to-do neighborhood, my Prius is parked among numerous luxury cars and SUVs that I would never care to drive. My graduate studies focused on studying Arctic glaciers and learning the science behind climate change. As a concerned citizen about climate change, as well as America's oil consumption (from the Middle East, Venezuela, and other undemocratic places), I bought the Prius for its great gas mileage. I needed no incentives (though, if I lived in VA, would appreciate the added benefit). More than just keep studying the science of climate change, I'm delighted to DO something to help reduce oil consumption and set an example.

I suppose I should also mention that my wife's father works for an oil company :)

I live in sterling and mostly work in dulles so no HOV for me. I bought the car primarily because of the technology - bluetooth, push start, nav, coolest gear knob ever etc. The savings in gas mileage is just the icing on the cake. Let me know if i can be of assistance.
