Hot dashboard during driving

    Here is a question which may have been posted, so sorry for asking it again. :oops:

    I have an 05 Prius, and I really like the windshield. But during a normal/not-so-hot day, the sun will shine direct on top of the car, and the light will hit the black dashboard and making it warm/hot. During any sunny day, this will always happen, and the car interior temperature will be warmer/hotter than outside air. :cry:

    I try to intake outside cool air, but it will always come in warm. Yes, I've checked all the settings (and I am the kind who doesn't like air-cond). The only thing I can think of is the the warm/hot dashboard is also making the air warmer, thus no cooler air to the front. :cussing:

    Anyone experience this problem? Or, anyone found that the heater is actually on to cause this problem?

    I had the same problem with my Nissan Pathfinder. I found that if I ran the A/C a few minutes and cooled the ducts down, I would get cool air. I don't have my Prius yet :( - so I don't know if it works the same.

    I think your theory is sound. The dash does get warm, and I think this contributes to warming the intake air. I usually start my drive with the windows down, and if it's not too warm, put them up after a couple of minutes and run the fan at maximum cool. I try to not use the a.c. unless it gets above around 80, give or take, depending on how far I'm driving.

    I had the same problem. Tried the already mentioned fixes. I finally put tint on the windshield and that made a huge difference. I know, it probably is not legal where most of us live, but the lightest available tint (50%) isn't even noticeable.
