I just moved to San Diego about two months ago. Right now I'm on the waiting list at three dealers (Mile of Cars, Kearny Mesa, and Toyota of San Diego). Which do you guys recommend? If you're wondering why I'm waiting at all, it's because I'm picky and I'm trying to hold out for a Driftwood #6. :)

    Welcome and congrats.

First, I had a bad experience trying to get a test drive at Toyota of San Diego so I have nothing good to say about them.

I bought my Prius right off the lot at Kearny Mesa Toyota. I e-mailed Howard Sheehy the internet manager and he was great. I highly recommend him. They also have a large, clean, up to date service bay and several Prius-trained technicians.

There are quite a few other dealers in the area. I'd try them all for a driftwood #6. You can always get the dealer you want to trade to get the car you want, especially if you know who has it.

I'd also try Mossy Nissan in Pacific Beach and Toyota of El Cajon.

Of course the more flexible you are about packages and color the easier it is. A #6 is easier than a #1 which is what I wanted. Silver is easiest to get. I wanted black and got black. Wanted a gray interior and got an ivory interior. But my last car had an ivory interior too so it wasn't that much of a shock.

If you haven't been able to get a test drive let me know and if you're not too far I'll swing by and you can try mine.

    Mossy has a white #6: http://www.mossytoyota.com/toyvehicle_info...arch_for=572629

I've taken four test-drives already, along with 2-3 Civic Hybrid test-drives. I like to be thorough before I make a decision. :) Thanks for the offer though. I'm in Mira Mesa by the way.

I already distrust Toyota of San Diego because they've never called me at all, and I've been on the list 2-3 weeks. Also I didn't get a good feeling about the place when I was there. Kearny Mesa did call me several times letting me know what's up, though they wanted a deposit which I eventually relinquished. Mile of Cars asked for no deposit or even any formal paper-work.

Mossy asks for a deposit but I'd rather not do more than one. I'll check out El Cajon though.

I agree that black/gray is pretty nice; oddly, I rarely hear of people getting the gray interior. I assume they're rarely, if ever, shipped out anymore. If they were, that would be my second choice.

You can only get the gray interior with the black, white or silver Prii. Hence you don't see it that often. But it is really nice.

The ivory cleans up surprisingly well. I got a tiny spot of tar on the back seat. (It was stuck to the bottom of a box I put on the seat. I was livid!) I used some "Goo gone" which took off the goo but not the stain. Then I used some Tide and a little brush and you can't tell it was even there. I did use Scotchguard on the car when I got it, but others report that even untreated, the seats clean really well.

Keep looking. And take some time to read this site. There is a lot of info here not only on the car but also about the process of buying. There is also a checklist somewhere for when you pick the car up. And give Howard a call periodically. Squeaky wheel, you know.

Maybe I'll see you at the PriusclubSD meeting in August?

I meant I've heard people who requested black/gray and got black/tan. In any case I would like going to the next meeting, depending on when it is.

By the way, I've been registered here since February, browsing both here and PriusOnline to find out what I could about the car. I'm very cautious when buying things.

Well, if you're willing to drive to Carson. (Or maybe a local dealer can trade for one.)

Most all of the cars posted are posted at MSRP for reference, and when one emails me personally, you get my fleet-best-lowest pricing to buy/lease with ... and I can be reached at [email protected]
for all and any cars we sell. On BC packages Prius, I sell at MSRP and that's 26,807 on all cars with BC, Z1 and EF. Reach me for your Prius ...
and most of the cars you see posted in my inventory are here or VERY close to being here... timewise. A few are still afloat but enough are here right now so that immediate delivery is quite possible in some colors!

Thanks for the link, Godiva. That dealer looks to have an amazingly large inventory so I believe I'll just buy from them. None of the SD dealers know of any incoming Driftwoods; I'd likely have to wait at least a couple of weeks to know what's going on. But that one seems to have alot of everything, and I have no problem driving to LA.

Don't forget Toyota of Escondido. That's where I ended up buying. My wait was a day or two short of 3 weeks, and that was due to color I wanted (black). $200 off MSRP if you use their fleet buying via Costco.

As I am new to the Escondido area, I would be interested in your opinion of their service department.

Well, my car is so new, I hope not to be experiencing their service department anytime soon. Haven't yet, so have no opinion unfortunately. Escondido isn't too convenient for me---I live downtown and work in Sorrento Mesa. I'm probably going to go to Kearny Mesa when I need to.

I live in San Diego, but went to Carson back in April to get mine. Very fast, I called at noon on Thursday and picked it up on Saturday (a little after noon).

I live less than 3 miles from Toyota of San Diego, but I'll have to check to see who will do my service. I've bought my seat covers from El Cajon Toyota and were happy with the parts department.
