The plants are here because the biggest chunk of their World market is here. Plus investing and hiring American workers is smart from a political and PR standpoint.

Outside the Big Three, you get Acura (Honda), Mosler, Scion (Toyota) and Teslar on top of what which brands we get over here.

We get Bristol, The rest of the Fiat empire, PSA (Citroen, Peugeot) Daihatsu, Perodua, Renault (and Dacia), Proton, Seat and Skoda (VW sub-brands).

I'm not quite so sure the US has "by far the most manfacturers"...

Not just the USA Tom, in Australia this is called "The Tall Poppy Syndrome". Smash the tops off the tall poppies because their blooms are higher than the rest.

I saw Honda was recalling some vehicles, but this don't get any press compared to what Toyota is getting

Well if GM can blame Toyota for the steering, why can't Toyota blame CTS for the accelerator pedals? Toyota is accepting responsibility, GM is attempting to deflect it. Typical GM.

So if Toyota blames CTS for an electronics problem and GM recalls a part made by a toyota company, it is ok for toyota but typical GM? Some of you guys really are in the Cult of toyota.

I think you got it backwards, Toyota said CTS made the parts, thats different then GM saying the (company name not mentioned) partially owned by Toyota made the parts. Why was it even necessary for GM's president to even mention Toyota as a part owner instead he should have but did not even name the suppliers name in the news i saw.

No. Where do you see Toyota making a statement about CTS like this quote by Lutz about Toyota?

"This is a case where, yes, we would blame a partially Toyota-owned supplier." Mr Lutz said the supplier had not met "all requirements for reliability and durability". "So we will have to see who takes financial responsibility," he said.

Sounds like GM is trying to dodge responsibility for it. Is Toyota trying to get CTS to pay for their recall?

Oh sorry i forgot to the recall was due to problems stemming from 1100 complaints in models dating back to 2005 and 2006, i wonder how long GM knew about these problems that they waited this long to do a recall.

Bet GM doesn't get slammed like Toyota did though. that many complaints on cars that old and just now they decide to get with the program!

Malorn's answer to this question should be interesting if not entertaining.

I'll say it again. It was dumb for Toyota to apologize. In America, that just gets the sharks circling for blood. Particularly at a time when Detroit is struggling to survive.

I can't ever remember any car manufacturer apologizing for recalls.

That means nothing to anyone who doesn't live in the USA. GrumpyCabbie is a pom so I don't think he will know where "Flyover Country" is, just like I don't.
